Game 120, Thread 2: Extras, because you didn't want to work anyway
Like a middle school dance, there's been a whole lot of not scoring in this affair (though a couple kids got to third base!). Matt Cain and Aaron Harang went toe-to-toe, as Slyde predicted they would, and now we have to see which bullpen cracks first. Both have been good. This could go on for 17 innings.

Dusty Baker just look back over his shoulder at T-Virus and mouthed the words:

Hard to watch her suffer, but with the second shot she died...

Damn
Jeff Piecoro is an idiot. If the Reds want 2 guys on the post game, shouldn’t they have atleast one who knows baseball?

Jesu Jones - I missed the Stumps walk-off
I knew that the kid had it in him…
Too bad cause a home run means that Dusty will sit him tomorrow. Dusty is no front runner.
how old is this guy…24…about the right age for daughter #3…

So I missed Stubbs walk-off because the cable guy was here working on my wiring for 2 hours
and it still isn’t fixed. I’m totally bummed that I missed the home run live, but happy that it happened!

awesome
I had to work, but I was keeping an eye on the game via the only sports site they haven’t blocked yet. The words Stubbs homered to left on a 2-0 count appeared on the screen and I almost shrieked. Which would have been bad, because everyone in the office would then know I wasn’t working…

I gasped audibly and said "oh my god!"
my co-workers were concerned. It was fun trying to explain that one away…
no big deal
at my “office” those two things go together all the time

I'm just glad I posted twice while the home run was happening.
Once to say “stay fair,” and then to celebrate. That was fun.
Yeah I saw that
That was an awfully timely post if you really sent it while the ball was in the air

MLB network showing Stubbs the love
John Hart called him the best athlete in his draft. Then Verducci and he talked about whether he would start in CF for the rest of the season and their comments were sort of “they have to don’t they – yeah, they will” but there was that trace of doubt. Maybe that’s me being affected by reading RR.
so for 2009
CF-Stubbs
LF-Dickerson
1B-Votto
3B-Rollen
RF-Bruce
2B-Phillips
C-Hannigan
SS-Janish?
Pitcher
Harang
Arroyo
Cueto
Owings
Bailey/Maloney/Lehr/Eventually Volquez
Cordero
Rhodes
Masset
??????
That doesn’t seem too terrible, but again their is no depth after the injuries begin.
Bloop
Balentien or Gomes would be a fine OF bench bat.
DRH, Burton will be back in the pen, Cordero might be dealt, but there is plenty of AAA depth at RP.
I wouldn’t count on Maloney or Lehr.
Hopefully we can scrounge up a deal for Hardy to replace Janish. Maybe Rosie even makes the club as a utility guy, although I’d prefer someone that is better defensively.
Kind of a power void in LF
Although C=-Dick has earned a shot a starting role, i see him at best getting a platoon with Gomes or being the roving #4 OF..that is if Stumpy gets the CF job.
I think I’d rather see:
CF-Stubbs
SS. JJ Hardy
3B-Rollen
2B-Phillips
1B-Votto
LF Gomes/Dickerson
RF-Bruce
C-Hannigan
Pitcher
Rolen hits for average more than power these days.Votto is ultimately more suited to be a RBI guy and Gomes gives you some adult punch in the lineup if he played every day i would expect him to hit 25-28 HRs and drive in 70-80 RBIs..(you won’t get that from chris Dickerson).
Must get a real MLB hitting SS….we might also see Hernandez back next year as Hanigan has struggled in the 2nd half. He’s been injured some, I’m sure he’s 100% but I wouldn’t count on either Hanigan or Hernadez being able to catch 145 games effectively in this day and age.
I don’t know what role if any Ballentine would play…Nix has been acceptable as a PH and when he plays he hit s lot of doubles, a lot of doubles. I’d rather have him on the bench along with Dickerson although they both hit LH. Gomes on the other hand is a terrible PH.
As long the Reds keep the focus on the pitching as well. I have no problem with Harang and Arroyo for another year. I wonder how many games these guys have kept the team in this season only to see the team lose?

You love you some Nix
I’m telling you right now that Wlad is a WAY WAY WAY better option going forward than Nix. He hits righties and lefties better, can take a walk, has more power, and has WAY more upside. Nix is done, it’s WLAD TIME!!!
Baseball must be a great game to survive the fools who run it.— Bill Terry
Do you like Wads more than Gomes?
My guess is that it will be one or the other come Springof 2010.

a .736 OPS for a corner OFer is far from "earning a shot at a starting role," IMHO.

Both of those guys are till producers.
Harang fell of there for a while but he’s back with a vengance. Bronson is such a known commodity and an innings eater extraordiare.

We might be down 4
But they are back 11 games. I’m a Bats fan now. It seems like our “small ball” club is a monster in AAA
why'd they take him out?
Injury? Or did they just want to rest him?
All Things Bubba: Because how can you not love a baseball player named Bubba?
Probably rest since it's a rehab start
Dickerson and Alonso didn’t play full games in theirs either. It’s been normally to get them a few ABs and some time in the field, and that’s it.
