41 losses in our last 60 games. So, a bunch of people get fired, right? Right?
A winning percentage of .316 since May 29.
The 2009 Reds are a laughing-stock, crash-and-burn disaster on their way to their 9th straight season without a winning record and their 14th without a post-season appearance.
Is it really so inconceivable that we fire Dusty Baker? I know it's his first second year. But hey, it's not unprecedented in Major League sports. The Green Bay Packers fired Ray Rhodes after one season. Would it really be so terrible to pay Dusty to not coach us into last place?
Please tell me that when October rolls around, we're going to hear something besides, "Everything's fine, just wait till next year!"
This isn't Wall Street, the millions we're paying these people are supposed to buy some performance.

Dusty could lose 162 games in a row
And still not be as bad as Billy G.
First time I shot her, I shot her in the side.
Hard to watch her suffer, but with the second shot she died...

I think Dusty sucks, but Castellini will not eat bad contracts, and Jocketty is signing some.....
…i.e. Tavares, Lincoln………….and Dusty are bad contracts.
Castellini is too cheap to pay someone to not play. He is too cheap to admit that hiring Dusty was a mistake, signing Tavares was a mistake, and signing Lincoln was a mistake.

Yeah, I think you've hit it.
When C. bought the team, I actually thought he was serious about winning.

I do think he's serious about winning
and I think he’s serious about the Reds being recognized again as an important MLB franchise (thus the many fine things he’s done to and for GABP and the fans around the region).
The problem, as has been floated around here for a few years, is that he doesn’t seem to understand how to build a winning team. Like the worst player in your fantasy league he seems to like familiar “names” (Dusty Baker, Walt Jocketty, Francisco Cordero, Scott Rolen)

Tell the people of the Maldives and the folks in New Orleans I’m really sorry for their losses and all, but Dusty made it so that it doesn’t snow here as much! Vive le Dusty

You are right on
Bob would rather play crap than pay guys not to play.
He’s done it before (Cormier, Stanton) but I think he’s tired of it and would rather play crappy players than get rid of them and try something new.
I also think that’s why you won’t see Harang or Arroyo dealt, because Bob won’t pick up any of their salary.

Dick Pole and Brook Jacoby got to go
obviously their approaches are not working. Atleast show the fans you are trying to help your players out.

I think they are failures
Bruce’s slump is a prime example to me. Players slump, but it didn’t look like Bruce was changing his approach at all and, given that Bruce is a cooperative guy, I think that is a failure of the hitting coaches.
by Red_Poodle on Aug 3, 2009 9:18 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
This is a distinct possibility
Dusty’s here to stay, at least through next season, but I don’t think Bob or Walt have any ties to Jacoby or Pole, and I could see either going, especially Jacoby.
I’d love to see the entire coaching staff, manager included, of the Louisville Bats come up and replace the one we currently have.

Can you trade managers?
Just curious. since we’ve onl won about 19 games in the last 60 I understand why it is difficult for me to remember what winning feels like

How Long
I think they should fire the manager, hitting and batting instructors and find a home for a half dozen “pitchers and players.” I guess we should expect by now the same story as last yr. wait till next your (ad infinitum). Hoping for a winning season/ post season playoff is unlikely at least into the next decade or beyond (after all we keep trading off our future prospects for one and done players). If you don’t want to fill the stadium, just keep up the present pace. Maybe everyone ought to just start boycotting the stadium until the management wises up(No offense to 80 percent of the ball players). No one wants a perrenial door mat. Thnk about it fans, you are the only ones that will eventually bring about change. (Not just a casual fan, as early as 8 i would listen on my transistor radio to the Reds games on the West Coast late as 2 am in overtime on a school night with a morning paper route.) This once Majestic team has become nothing more than fodder and laughing stock for the masses. This is where the real change is needed!
by gb cool on Aug 3, 2009 1:32 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
you wanna fire some guys?
Start with Clownballs.tHom, and Mark Berry
Hire Kelch and shut sMarty up.
Hire ED as hitting coach
Hire whoever is in charge of the Blue Jays pitchers and put Dick Pole out there as the 3rd bse coach – LOL
But none of this will happen…oh well, I hope we get to go to Arthur’s Wednesday

Marty is angry
and rightfully so…..he has the position to make comments and he is doing it…..I don’t necessarily agree with how he is handling it, but this man has been around for a lot of things in this team’s history (since ’74) and he has earned the right to speak out….
Remember, we're having fun now!!!
by ALLBLUCAT on Aug 4, 2009 1:16 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
This is my opinion, and it is probably shared by some people here,
but sMarty speaks his mind TOO much. He has players he likes and players he doesn’t and he rides the players he does not until he rides them out of town. Dunn was one, Griff another. He thought Larkin didn’t know his place. He thought Eric Davis was lazy. He hated Encarnacion. He thought jose Rijo was a loon (which he is and was, so score one for Marty). He loves Pete and grades every player on how scrappy they are and whether they hit singles.
I have a friend who is a Tigers fan and, when we were kids, he was my roommate. He listened to a ton of Marty and Joe 15 years ago when we but lads. He tuned in last year on a long drive and went out of his way to tell me what a bitter, old man sMarty sounds like, very different from the guy we used to listen to.
Another friend of mine is a Mets fan (stuck in Indianapolis!) and he brought up out of the blue how negative and hostile sMarty is. Marty spoke his mind in the good ol’ days and. like I said, he had his favorites, but he is completely different now. I have a hard time listening to him, whereas I miss Joe terribly.
Marty’s transformation in sMarty and bringing tHom and Brantley onto the broadcast crew are the worst things to happen to this franchise since Wayne traded away half the team for Gary Majeski’s hurt arm.

i dont' think i am the first person at RR to say this
but i think Joe counterbalanced Marty. Marty was probably always critical, but Joe was always relaxed. Where as now Marty criticizes, and tHom and clownpenis jump in, and it is one giant circle jerk. How about putting Grande on with Marty, I think Grande would balance him out.

the way this year has gone someone will probably make billy hatcher the scapegoat even though he’s the only one any of us want to stay …

I've have often praised Hatcher here at RR because he is such a fine human being
I don’t know his ultimate ceiling as far as whether or not he is manager material or not. but I do know that because of his honesty, dilligence and intelligence he could not help but be a significant improvement over the 5 manager’s combined.
Sigh.

But if we lose tonight, it will be our longest losing streak since 2005!
And, rather amazingly, we had 8 game losing streaks every year from 2001-2005.

We're approaching 1989 too
Where they lost 15 of 16 from 7/7 to 7/26. Does this mean we’re going to win the WS next year?

I say it again
The Reds suck. It pains me deeply ( I remember the Luis Tiant battle with Foster) but the reds stink to high heaven. We should start a new league with the Pirates… teams with a history of victory that look into the future of mediocrity at best.
