Red Reporter After Dark: Episode 3
Tonight we will have another episode of the show that, for some reason, people say that they like. It's Red Reporter After Dark (brought to you via TalkShoe), a talk show designed to give you an opportunity to hear the nasally tones of the Red Reporter crew set to the hollow echo of their parents' basements. The show will air live from 9-10 PM ET and you can call in to the show toll free at (724) 444-7444 using show ID 98957. If the talking thing is not for you, you can also participate by logging into the show and dropping your text comments in the chatroom.
Tonight's topics:
- What will the Reds record be at the end of the season? Where will they finish in the standings?
- Shortstop, left field, center field, third base: who should be playing there?
- Should Johnny Cueto start again this season?
- Off Topic: Which baseball movie had the most realistic baseball action?
- Plus: minor league update and we'll be playing a game through the hour that I made up called, "Keep, Release, or Set on Fire?"
I hope you can join us. It should be a lot of fun. Well, at least it won't be the worst way that you've wasted an hour this week.

i won't be able to call in live but i do want to chime in about the baseball movie.
Little Big League – this came out in the summer of ‘94 so my 10-year-old mind thought it was effin’ badass simply because it was about baseball. while the story is retarded, and the acting equally bad at times, this is one baseball movie that i remember thinking the baseball-action scenes were done quite well.
they got a lot of big-name players to make cameos and even gave Junior a chance to showcase his acting ability, which, looking back, was really not that bad. i catch a lot of shit for defending this turd of a movie, but the baseball scenes (and overall attention to baseball detail) speak for themselves and i usually come out looking like less of dork. is it the most realistic? i am in no position to argue that since i haven’t seen every baseball movie. but i will say i was impressed when i saw it again as an adult. don’t knock it unless you’ve seen it.

I was totally thinking the same movie!
It was so awesome! It even had real baseball players like Kevin Elster! That time they got Griffey out at second by pretending the pickoff was overthrown was classic.

first, neither BK nor I could connect over the ‘net and then I couldn’t record. By that point, my heart was no longer in it.

What's wrong with the Reds
Having played 117 games and with a record of 50-67, there are 44 games remaining; 22 home games and 22 away games. Most of the games will be within their own division as they wind down the schedule. The way Dusty is managing, the Reds is unlikely to win more than 65 games and could lose more than 95 games. Where will they finish? It really depends on the head to head games with Pittsburgh (6 away and 3 at home remaining) and the Reds could stink real bad.
I would let Cueto rests his arm for the balance of this year. Hopefully it was just over extended. May be the same problem with Volquez. Together with Bailey & Maloney, 4 young pitching prospects and potential stars are all yesterday’s dreams under Dusty.
Grumpy Rolen is not your answer to 3B, neither is injury prone Gonzalez to ss, nor is no hit Taveras to CF. Bruce should be back in the outfield next year barring further complication. If Owings can hit, we need to see if there is a position he can play instead of pitching.

I think they're going to continue to get a lot
out of the Penny/Leonard dynamic. She’s started to reciprocate some of that back to him, so I’m sure we’ll see more of that, to the point where eventually something will happen with it. Although, I hope they learned from The Office and don’t make them a couple.

interesting
“Rebuild via the farm system” is winning handily, at least at the moment.
I might vote for “Do a little bit of both” in ordinary circumstances, but these aren’t ordinary circumstances. The financial crisis is far from over. There’s a bad moon rising, and I think the trouble on the way will be clearly visible by spring training.
The Reds should be fiscally conservative. If that means taking a hit at the gate or in jersey sales for a year or to, so be it. (And it might not be that much of a hit. Fans are a lot more interested in the farm system these days.)
