Game Recap, Doin' It All For The 'nukkah Edition
Joe Nuxhall Memorial Honorary Star of the Game
I'm gonna go with Justin Lehr for another strong outing despite giving up 11 hits. One run is one run, kids.
Key Plays
- The Reds gave Lehr a cushion early when Mr. Nix daynced his way to second in the first inning, knocking in Alex Gonzalez(tm) and everyone's favorite Canuck. The Jhonny knocked in Cancer on a chopper and the Reds were rolling.
- In the next inning Mr. Mountie knocked in CDickRun who had tripled (we have guys who can play CF and hit triples, who knew?), giving the Reds a comfy 4-0 lead. Or so it seemed.
- In the fourth inning, Jhonny threw out Molina at the plate because Molina is slow.
- Not having learned his lesson, Molina tried to take second on GomesZilla in the sixth. Silly girl.
- Left Smurf did his job in the 7th, getting Skip (Skip, really?) Shumacker to GISS and struck out everyone's favorite cheese to preserve the lead. Not nearly as cool as standing next to Shaq, but whatever.
- AGon knocked in what would be the winning run in the 8th with his fourth hit of the night, assuring him of being in the lineup waaaaay too much over the next month and a half.
- CoCo survived the train wreck that was the 9th inning, and the Reds went home winners. I tip my cap to CoCo for not losing his cool.
Other Notes
- The Reds still have no chance to win 100 games.
- Albert Pujols homered but the Reds still won. How does that happen?
- Be happy, we have a chance to win the series tomorrow. Chris Carpenter be damned.

Nice recap
Since we are up against another Cy Young candidate tomorrow, we will score around 7 runs. I just hope there aren’t anymoe CoCo-Votto-BP gut punch plays tomorrow (win or lose!). Too late in the evening for that stuff!
I like the JNMHSotG, and the description of why
I’ll take 1 run out of my 8th starter any day.
"We, as for me all seasons you are affected peculiarly in the edge of my seat and are happy concerning the fact that the Adam Dunn fan has been mixed up exactly." - Reynard-san
yeah
he got lucky a few times, but they were all singles! He hasn’t been clubbed, really, in any of his starts.
Gonzalez has actually looked pretty damn good the last week and a half
He’s been making good contact, and taking walks even. I’ve been just as pissed as everyone at him in the 2 hole, but maybe he’s coming around a little. Whether or not he’ll continue it is, um…debatable. either way it has been nice to see some production from the top of the order. its unfortunate that Dickerson probably ran himself out of any chance to see regular playing time in center. that second mistake was brutal, the plays right in front of you.
yeah, those were really dumb mistakes by Dickerson.
i’ve heard Cowboy talk about his baseball IQ and he’s none too impressed with it. he’s a helluvan athlete though ain’t he? i’m guessing he’ll lead off again tonight if Will-eh can’t go.
but yeah, Dick probably screwed us out of 2, maybe 3 more runs… a stern talking-to should suffice.
it’s kinda nice getting production at the top… something has clicked in Gonzo since that botched cutoff last week. sometimes that’s all guys need to kick their ass in gear, but i don’t want him to do too well cuz that means we’ll pick up his option in ’10 and that would be in the top 10 dumbest moves in Reds history.
i really think he's playing for a fat contract elsewhere

I think Chris's "mistake" ion the first was the best thing thaty happened to the Reds in the inning
Votto just hit a double play ball and Chris’s break for the plate got DeRosa to take his one out, rather than the Joey’s GIDP
yeah I realized that at the time
which is why I didn’t mention it. Also if Derosa did go to turn the DP then I think the right move was for dickerson to go home, which is why he was so far off in the first place, he just needed to not go as far off the bag as he did.

Lefty Smurf
MLB.com had another article about him last weekend.
SAN FRANCISCO — Don’t know who Daniel Ray Herrera is? Look for the diminutive pitcher throwing the baseball in the wrong direction.
That would be a screwball, Herrera’s go-to pitch.
“There’s not a lot of people around the league that throw it, especially being left-handed,” he said. “It’s just a different look, different look that hitters have to see.”

its time for a DRH jersey or tshirt ... though a life sized one might be a bit too small for me ...

hmmmmm
more importantly what are their chances of losing 100 games?
Don't pick a fight with an old man. If he is too old to fight, he'll just kill you.
Funny that the game thread last night had a EDSBS flavor
since they are now moving to SB Nation. Score!

so what do we do when owings comes back from his dl stint?
someones goes to the bullpen? a started gets traded away (lehr gets traded)? a six man rotation? cueto gets shut down for the year (my personal favorite)?

i forgot ... let owings be our full time PH player and throw hiim a OF glove?

No problem dude
Quite the turd, but serviceable. Much like myself.

If we go 25-25 the rest of the year
we’ll have an identical record to last year……don’t know why but that’s kind of depressing to me.
