Edwin Up Richar Out
Richar tore his labrum and is on the 15 day DL but I imagine that he is out for the year and Edwin has been reinstated from the 60 day DL just in time for a huge series against the Cardinals. He is a big bat that we have been lacking. We need him to come up and play like good Edwin and not bad Edwin. How much of an effect on the line up do you guys think that we will have.

My guess is
unless he plays center field, his impact will be insignificant.

Taveras is done in CF
at least against Right handed pitching. The Reds are fine in CF with Dickerson- in fact they are more than fine with Dickerson in CF.
I didnt think EE would make that big of impact coming back. But that was before Rosales/Hairston hit at a level slightly better than what you would expect from a starting pitching.
Now if EE returns to his career averages that could mean a couple games in the win column for the Reds in a half season.

He's playing center tonight!
and my comment was intended to indicate that unless Taveras is removed from the lineup, no other change will be significant enough to help the REDS

I'm interested in seeing how Dusty arranges this lineup
Dickerson CF
Hanigan C
Votto 1B
Gomes/NIx LF
Phillips 2B
Encarnacion 3B
Bruce RF
Janish SS
Pitcher
Would be pretty good
Of course, we’d probably never see something like.

Ha ha, get it?
cause he throws the ball away a lot. Yawn.
This team is desperate enough for a bat that I’m more than happy to put up with his defense. I just hope he has his stroke back already.
(BTW, it’s E5, jackass)

yes
According to the studies I’ve seen, shoulder problems can be career-enders even for position players. (Ask Craig Wilson and Bubba Crosby, who had relatively mild shoulder problems.)
Teams will send players for TJ surgery at the drop of a hat, but they usually try to avoid shoulder surgery if at all possible. Shoulder surgery is pretty routine for an ordinary person, but not for a baseball player. I don’t think doctors understand it as well as they understand elbow problems.

Wrong Wing
It’s Richar’s left shoulder, not throwing arm. Depending on the severity of the tear, he should be okay. Good thing was he didn’t have a separation and tear.

The problem is that Janish needs to play SS more when EdE comes back to help cover his defense
but somehow I doubt that will happen. Cherry at shortstop ain’t all that hot, and if he keeps hitting like he is, then he’s pretty much worthless.

EdE's problem on defense
is not his glove or his range, but his arm. Though, this argument aside, I still would like to see what Janish can do At short for an extended time.

Not according to UZR
his range is just as bad as his arm.

What do your eyeballs tell you? Guy has great hands, decent positioning, does alright except for his footwork and arm slot on certain throwing angles.

I’d even take bad Edwin. A brucesque .220 average and .800 ops would be magical at 3b.

so no real impact in short term…but high hopes for the long term. Real issue is if Homer can toss strikes tonight and limit his walks. I’ve got my doubts…

Why?
EE played a 14-inning doubleheader late last night, then had to pack and travel from Louisville early afternoon today, and then get to the park and get ready for tonight? Plenty conceivable.

because he played a double header yesterday? Or is this a case of Dusty Being Dusty?

Wonder if EE did have a setback a few days ago...
remember when they didn’t play him for a day and then they had an off day. Did he play in the the double header yesterday? If he’s hurt or worn out, I’d be more comfy with just PH tonight. If not the case, I’d like to see his ashtabula in the lineup.
by Green Hammer on Jul 3, 2009 4:57 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
He played both games yesterday
went 0-for-3 in the first and went 2-for-3 in the second. I think he’s fine.

Plus an OF of Dickerson-Virus-Bruce is ideal for a flyball pitcher like Owings.

Why did they have to bring Error Encarnacion back...
Couldn’t we have just left him down in L’ville, and gone with Janish / Hairston at 3B?
I think Jockety needs to settle on a coherent strategy because:
They didn’t go after Dunn because they didn’t want a player who plays bad defense and has a bad batting average, even though he hits a lot of HR"s and gets RBI’s…….But…….they keep Error Encarnacion around who has worse defense, also has a bad batting average (and gets on base less), hits less HR’s and gets less RBI’s
by ephram on Jul 5, 2009 8:07 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Justin'd
Seriously EdE is not ‘the’ answer. At least not at 3B. His range is ok, his arm is inconsistent, but more importantly he just not that good of a hitter. He’ll hit a few dingers and drive in a few runs but not enough to be more than marginally better than Jerry Jr in the final analysis..
I’d rather have him than Rosales…at least he’s better than Rosy.
