Castellini lied to Reds fans
He buys team and pretends to want to field a winner. He fires Krivsky and states we aren't going to tolerate losing anymore. At what point do we begin to believe Castellini?
Walt Jocketty was suppose to be some kind of wizard at putting together teams. Lincoln? Tavares? Hernandez? Weathers?
Dusty complains over and over about fundementals but can't even put together a correct lineup. The team is abysmal at fundementals, but the organization, from Owner, to GM, to manager do nothing about it.
Meanwhile, the Cards add DeRosa, Lugo, and Holliday. They mean business and obviously the Reds ARE going to tolerate losing for quite a while longer. Nice job Castellini.
It's been fun. Thanks for the lies. When you do start to win, send someone else up to the podium because I don't believe you anymore.

DeRosa - injured
Lugo – crap
Holliday … we’ll see.
Meanwhile, the Cards just got passed by the Cubs. Hooray for them!

Just because

When the Cubs have to play the Phils and the Cards get 3 from the Reds, it’ll even out.

Inappropriate
I thought it was more than a little inappropriate for Mr Castellini to toss out all that not going to lose anymore garbage when firing Krivsky. Krivsky was thrown in front of the bus.
Watch the Bengals and UC basketball have winning seasons this winter…leaving the Reds as the lovable local losers.

Xavier has had more incidents since Mick took over. You give UC no credit for shaking that image. Xavier sweeps it all under the rug. UK will be breaking all kinds of rules now that Calipari is there. He's a known cheater. But he fits in well at UK.
Dude that's the point
UC took all these step under Nancy to clean up their image. However, the moment she’s gone, they accept a commitment from a player even bobby huggins wouldn’t take..
And for all these rules violations you are alleging at other schools, show me one thing that has been proven.
Made from 100% Recycled Awesome,
Yeah, like UK and XU haven't taken chances on players.
You just focus on UC. The horse punching incident has been blown way out of proportion. Never happened.
Calipari is under investigation and conveniently fled Memphis like he fled UMass under investigation years ago which he was proven guilty of. Derek Rose cheated and Memphis set it up.
Bledsoe was questionable academically, that’s why he was available so late. He has bad grades, but UK quickly nabbed him up.
For you to even defend UK makes you look like a total idiot. They are the worst school in terms of cheating probably in the history of the NCAA. Hands down.
Xavier flies under the radar as a mid-major, but if you live in Cincinnati, you hear about all the things that get swept under the rug down there.
You just focus on UC. The horse punching incident has been blown way out of proportion. Never happened.
Honestly, I don’t know what that incident is.
Calipari is under investigation and conveniently fled Memphis like he fled UMass under investigation years ago which he was proven guilty of. Derek Rose cheated and Memphis set it up.
This statement is 100% false. Calipari is not and was never under investigation in the Derrick Rose situation. That was a problem with his high school, and the NCAA acknowledged it had nothing to do with Memphis. Umass also was not under investigation, Marcus Camby was. Camby took money from an agent, and it had nothing to do with the university or with Calipari.
Before UK hired Calipari they had him checked out by both the SEC and the NCAA. Both reports came back positive, and the hiring was endorsed by them both..
Bledsoe was questionable academically, that’s why he was available so late. He has bad grades, but UK quickly nabbed him up.
Bledsoe was questionable acedemically, but he worked hard and got himself eligible. There is a difference between taking a guy that has trouble in school, and taking a guy that has tried about ten different ways to make himself ineligible.
For you to even defend UK makes you look like a total idiot. They are the worst school in terms of cheating probably in the history of the NCAA. Hands down.
They have been taught a few times, but to say that there was anymore rulebreaking going on at UK than say UCLA is seriously misguided.
Xavier flies under the radar as a mid-major, but if you live in Cincinnati, you hear about all the things that get swept under the rug down there.
I live reasonably close to Cincinnati, and I don’t remember hearing anything about Xavier and any wrongdoings.

There have been two
Dedrick Finn stole his girlfriend’s dog, and Drew Lavender got found with pot after his senior season. Finn was kicked off the team, and Lavender would have been if he was still there. Other than that, the players they’ve brought in have been good players and good people.
I went to Xavier, and can attest that there’s nothing there that’s been “swept under the rug”.

Yeah, I don't want to derail this thread to the Bengals, but you may be right......
I really thought the Bengals missed an opportunity to take over this town with the Reds floundering under Lindner. They went to the ’05 playoffs, blew it and have blown ever since. Castellini takes over, talks a big game, and I really thought the Bengals missed their chance and the Reds were going to re-take the town.
Now I think the Bengals have re-grouped. Marvin Lewis appears to have learned from his mistakes over his head coach career of the Bengals, and I do believe this is a “re-made” Bengals team.
Now I think the Reds have missed their opportunity. Especially if the Bengals get Mike Vick to backup Carson. If Carson goes down, the season could still be interesting.
There. I didn’t totally derail. Just made it a comparison post about which organization wants to take over the fans in this city.

I’m as frustrated with this team as the next person,
But I have no doubt that he wants to ‘field a winner’ in Cincinnati, but he’s not going to do it at the cost of taking a loss, nor do I expect him to. As I see it, people who have enough money to buy a ballclub are not generally the type of people who are going to embrace taking a loss on their investment for the matter of civic pride, and throwing money at this situation often does not turn out well. (See Mets, New York)
The only thing I’m disgruntled about with respect to ownership is the relationship between Bob, Dusty and Walt. Dusty should report to Walt, who should report to Bob. None of this apparent nonsense of Dusty going straight to Bob.
Regarding the evaluation of Jocketty as a GM, you’re trying to evaluate a GM a year and a half into his having the position? Yes, stupid contracts have been handed out, but I’m prone to believe that it’s more due to the relationship I mentioned above than a lack of acumen from Walt. Let’s give it another year or three on the GM front before trying to properly evaluate him, no?
If Dusty is fired
then I will have much slack to give. Until then, they are tolerating or agreeing with some of the most asinine decisions this side of Bob Boone. As I’ve said before, losing is at least tolerable in the short term, If a plan appears to be in place. Dusty Baker is a lack of a plan.

Lance Stephenson the savior...
Maryland wouldn’t take Stephenson because while on his official visit with the Terps, Stephenson took it upon himself to go on a NCAA rules violating tour of Under Armor. Others wouldn’t touch him because of the probable NCAA rules violating reality show he did about himself on MTV. Others still because of his almost certain academic ineligibility. And then there’s the fact that he was cut from the US Junior team even though the coach that cut him acknowledged that he would have been the best player on the team. Not to mention that he is a horrible teammate, he wont share the ball, he plays no defense, he doesn’t respect his coaches, and his father is more problematic than Lindsay Lohan’s.
The story I find to be alarming is St. Johns pulling out of the Stephenson recruiting race after his visit… They had a real chance to sign him and desperately needed a player to make them relevant again. They had no interest in having him associated with their program.
It was also written that whoever signed Stephenson was almost guaranteeing themselves of an NCAA investigation.
The only reason Stephenson is at UC is because Mick Cronin was not a good hire, he is not a good coach, and he is desperate to find talent that might save his job. Stephenson will not play a single game for the Bearcats next season and will then go to the NBA. Cronin will be fired within 2 years.
So lets not get too excited that somebody decided that he was #10 on a list somewhere. Hopefully this whole debacle doesn’t lead to penalties from the NCAA.

unranked 3 star shooting guard whose best offers were auburn and oregon state
yeah that’s much more exciting than a potential top 10 recruit. (if he were going to be eligible)
Made from 100% Recycled Awesome,
Kenyon Martin, Steve Logan, and David West all flew under the radar in high school.........your point is?
Mike Williams was a McDAA in high school. 7 footer Kenny Frease at Xavier was ranked 40th in his class and hardly did anything. Wasn’t Gates dropped in the rankings to like 80 or something and he put up far better numbers than Frease did. 7 footer at OSU couldn’t break starting lineup last year and he was #1 player in his class and got drafted. Plenty of stories of overranked players.
Kilpatrick is a done deal and WILL BE IN UNIFORM AT UC. That is the difference. If Lance isn’t eligible, you can’t miss what you never had. That is the point. If you can comprehend, which I doubt.
Frease did just fine in his first year with the team
He’s a big man with low-post presence, which is what they needed. To compare him with Gates isn’t fair, because Gates averaged 6 more minutes a game and played a much larger role in the offense. He was surrounded by less talented players in the post, and put a larger contribution to the offense. Not knocking his performance, because he’s one of the better players on that team, but it’s not the same situation. Put him in XU’s offense, and he puts up Frease numbers.

1-10 is generally superior

Unless it’s a McDonalds All-American you’re talking about, the ranking beyond that doesn’t matter too much. Highly ranked players routinely bust and players come in off the radar all the time and shine in the right system.

Comical post. You should be on the Comedy Tour.
NCAA will make a determination before he ever sets foot on UC campus as an official student. Therefore, any negative findings will eliminate him as a UC Player before he joins the roster. So there will be no penalties or sanctions against UC. I’m sure you’re disappointed, as you obviously are a UC hater. Jealousy will get you nowhere. It’s a no-lose situation for UC. If he’s eligible, it propels them into the top 25 with everyone returning except Mike Williams. If he’s not eligible, they still return nearly everyone and gain back injured PG Cash Wright and also add the best player at Deveroes this summer, Sean Kilpatrick, who scored 40 points to put Slats in the final. Nobody could stop him. He blew every player from every local top school away. He’s a player. And if Lance isn’t available, Sean Killer Kilpatrick will be leaving everyone in the dust. Sa-weet.
as the derrick rose situation proves
just because a player is initially ruled eligible it doesn’t mean the school is in the clear for playing him.
Made from 100% Recycled Awesome,
....because they helped get him eligible. Duh. Stupid analogy. UC isn't doing that. They are just working with the NCAA to see if he will be eligible. Huge difference.

Experts disagree. Sporting News said as much when Lance verballed to UC. Said it propels them to top 25 status. But I don’t need them to tell me that.
Returning former All-Big East SG Deonta Vaughn who played out of position at PG last year. 4 year starter. Top 60 high school recruit at PG, Cashmere Wright. Top 10 2009 SF in Lance Stephenson (if eligible – that’s what makes them top 25), Yancy Gates (I went and checked, he’s was not rated 80, but ended up at 21 in 2008 class), transfer from Big 12 where he was a starter – 6’-11" Ibrahima Thomas in the low post too. UC returns everyone except Mike Williams. Adds a backup frosh PG and the best player in the Deveroes League – Sean Kilpatrick.
UC will be top 25 this year.
I don't think they are preseason
They need some help with other people losing early games. They’re the 6th best team in the Big East, at best.

that conference is tough
Made from 100% Recycled Awesome,
Big East will down a notch this year.
Pittsburgh lost 4 starters to graduation and NBA. UConn lost 3 to 4 starters. Louisville lost Terrance Williams and Earl Clark. Notre Dame lost 3 to 4 key players/starters. Marquette lost 3 key starters. Syracuse will be tough but has to replace Jonny Flynn. G’town lost their stud junior PF (Summers), but everyone else is back. Villanova loses Dante Cunningham but returns everyone else including a great recruiting class. West Virginia will be good. Providence lost a bunch of key starters to graduation. Seton Hall, St. John’s and Rutgers, all from the bottom of the league return almost everyone and should be much improved. Same with Cincinnati. Return everyone but Mike Williams, but have Ibrahima Thomas who will more than replace him.
The league falls off a notch. It was the most competitive and talented it ever was last season. Hard to sustain. Alot of guys graduated and alot of guys went pro early – Hasheem Thabeet, Jonny Flynn, Earl Clark, and Dajuan Blair.
Cronin is way too short to ever be successful at the Div 1 level.
I’d love to see him succeed but it will be very very difficult unless:
1. He grow about a foot
2. His wife turns white (this situation freaks out a lot of UC alums my age- dickheads)
3. He hires his dad as an assistant coach
4. He learns how to cheat better
5. Nancybitch is gone

Mick was far more up against it than any coach in the last 20 years. One of the toughest situations I’ve ever witnessed.
MICK IS TO CALHOUN AS BIGGIE MCCLAIN IS TO KENYON
Andy Kennedy is a far superior coach to Mick.
Micks teams do not improve as the season progresses. They are consistantly out of position on both ends of the floor. They are turnover prone (especially passing) because they are not fundamentally sound. In short, he does not coach them up.
Last year, he gave the million dollar tell of a coach whos in over his head when he threw his hands up and said to the press after another lousy performance: “I tell them what to do, but they don’t listen.”

Holliday came out today and said he's not in a hurry regarding his future........which is a good sign he'll wait until after the season to sign.
Hopefully the Cards just blew their farm system wad for a rent-a-player. And hopefully they don’t go too far.
I was trying to get my thread back on topic.
Besides, I’ve pretty much made my point and won the argument. Let’s move on.
"Let's move on"
Says the person who went back and responded to everything with “I owned you.”
"Sir, can you please put your pants back on?"
LOL.
Owned is a joke my friends and I use when we get to the end of an argument about sports. When it’s clear nobody is going to agree, someone will say they owned the other. It’s used to get under the skin of the person you’re arguing with in a joking fashion.
I realize you didn’t know this. So let’s move on. I didn’t “own” anyone. I just like saying it to aggravate you. LOL.
That's racist.

More good moves by Castellini and Walt..........
Bring up Manuel and Sutton again. Yippee. That’ll get the fans excited.
It is an excellent move
Why play prospects who are not ready?
Why burn their options
Why not let Gomes and Nix have a shot at playing full time
Oh and BTW Castellini isn’t the kind of guy who is a liar. He’d kick your ass for saying that. He really believes that he can bring a winnner to cinti. Maybe he will- maybe he won’t but don’t call him a liar…
it sounds so sophmoric…

....uh......have you listened to the radio lately? Marc Amazon pretty much stated everything I did.
I’m not the only one questioning Castellini and his “we’re not going to lose anymore” statements he made when he fired Krivsky.
I see your an apologist and part of the problem. Not part of the solution.
Give me some gloves and find a boxing ring and I’ll gladly meet Bob in the ring and duke it out. I’m mad as hell and I’m not going to take it anymore!
And I see "your" don't have no grip on the language.

plenty of credentials for those positions around here
if you make the your/you’re mistake or the there/their/they’re mistake, you’d better be quick to call yourself out or someone else will
Made from 100% Recycled Awesome,
Let me reiterate
Today Castellini was quoted as saying that he feels the team is still in it. (The race for PS)
He believes this..not just saying it to put foolks in the stands…he knows that winning and only winning will do that. But this a guy who doesn’t quit. He doesn’t put up with bullshit and I’m surprised that he’s stayed out of the mix as long as he has.
A few years ago I was in several meetings with Castellini regarding purchases of Artworks and also downtown developement. I don’t claim to have any personal relationship with him. But I can tell you his is a toug, fairminded and driven guy. He doesn’t want to be the ‘generational loser’ of the Castellini family. He has great will and is a good listener.but in the final anaylisis he’ll either get this thing to a winning level or find a way to sell it to someone who can.And soon.
