well
he buys, but then he insists on sticking around and constantly inviting the sophomore chicks to come jump on the trampoline with him. so it’s kind of a catch 22.

Johnny has figured out a way to cut his pitch count in half! He'll just hit the batters, rather than walking them!

No matter what he does, it doesn’t seem to matter any more

18 games up on the Nats...
CAN WE HOLD THEM OFF??
Stay tuned for the thrilling conclusion.
You ever been to the South side of Milwaukee?
At least this way we get the heartbreak out of the way early
I’d rather now that we aren’t going to the playoffs now rather than be like the Mets and fall apart in the last week.

In fairness it's been 10 years since we could lament a late season swoon.

Walt said he was an untouchable last year. I think the GM has a better handle on things than the average Hal reader or Hal or Fay reader
Forgiven. But, I understood his point
EdE’s never gonna be Mike Schmidt, but his contract and production make him valuable.
yes
he’s an average 3B. it’s a hell of a lot more than we can say about half the positions we have on this team.

Willy T in under contract and what would they do with EdE?
Steady as she goes would be my guess, but what do I know.
but then who plays 3b?
Knowing this team they make Cherry the starting 3B and keep taveras in CF and Stubbs in AAA

by nycredsfan on Jul 25, 2009 3:21 PM EDT via mobile up reply actions
You know they will and you and I will meet at GABP and start a shooting spree
Best idea, in house, this team has, is moving him to left and finding a 3rd baseman between Cherry, Rosales, Frazier, Valaika, etc
I'm sure someone would take him
but I don’t think any return you would get would make it worth it to trade him. If anything he would start losing playing time.
Just crazy....the stats guys love him. The GM calle dhim an untouchable
somewhere out there wants him. jesus, someone was willing to take Jeff Keppinger
Well, I postedthe joe Sheehan take from BP two days ago where he referred to EdE as part of the core of a winning team
but, I mis-read your comment, which made me bitchy. Apologies
he can definitely be the 3B and 5-hitter for a playoff team
but he needs a great defensive SS and a good lineup around him. he’s not a loser like Taveras, but he’s a world-beater like Votto.
by Charlie Scrabbles on Jul 25, 2009 3:33 PM EDT up reply actions
i dunno if LF is really the place for him
defensively, he’s more like a 1B. in fact, i bet he could be an above average 1B. but in LF i just dont think he’d hit enough to make it worth it.
by Charlie Scrabbles on Jul 25, 2009 3:35 PM EDT up reply actions
i think he'd be an average defender in LF
but the average OPS for a LF is closer to .850 than .800. i think he has .850 OPS potential, but i think the Reds have 1 too many players to play 1B/LF/3B for the near future and EdE is probably the least among them. i like EdE, but i think this year was his year to really establish himself. i dont know if the Reds are willing wait for him anymore.
by Charlie Scrabbles on Jul 25, 2009 3:40 PM EDT up reply actions
I think they will wait one more year
and, Charlie, re-read my comment. I wasn’t talking MOST teams or AVERAGE production. I was talking about the pathetic nature of this team
yeah i got it

He did miss nearly half the season too though
I’d say he gets at least until the ASB next year
by wishfuldrifter on Jul 25, 2009 3:43 PM EDT up reply actions
i dont think the stats are really all that high on him
i mean, he has an above average bat at 3B, but his glove is monstrous. as a 3B i think he can be league-average, but if he has to move to LF or 1B like he should his value will suffer.
by Charlie Scrabbles on Jul 25, 2009 3:31 PM EDT up reply actions
But look at what we got for Keppinger
I want way more than Drew Sutton for EdE…

You know, next yaer that will be different. He'll be in the final year and Walt will pull the trigger
We’ll know what management thinks of him by spring trainging, i.e. do they sign him to an extension in Spring Training
I'm going out on a limb and saying that they do
The way this team is managed, they probably give him an extra year or 2 to see how he can do with a team of his own that isn’t marred by injuries

I feel pretty confident Walt doesn't like him and would like to get rid of him
He wasn’t Walt’s signing, he seems to have and want a lot of say in personnel decisions, I think Walt would love to fire Dusty and hire LaRussa in the offseason.
Not that I want that, but I be Walt does.

Add to that the fact
