Dammit
Daily Dish links us to a story in the NY Post that says the Mets will likely be chosen to host the All-Star Game in 2013. Didnt those New York bastards just host the All-Star Game last year??!! I'm normally not one to gripe about a small/mid-market team's lot in life, but this is shit. Beautiful new Great American Ballpark is going to be a toilet by the time they get to host an All-Star Game, if they ever do. Baseball is jerks. -

Harry Pavlidis at BtB takes a look at Pitch F/X data from the Futures Game
It's a rare treat to see minor league Pitch F/X data because minor leaguers so rarely play games in major league stadia. JC Sulbaran featured a pretty good sinker, but the Rangers prospect Neftali Feliz blew everyone away with his 100+ MPH heater. Yowza. -

Bud Selig said the other day that he is still reviewing Pete Rose's effort for reinstatement
"It is under review," Selig said Tuesday during a question-and-answer session with the Baseball Writers' Association of America. "He did, as you know, accept voluntarily a lifetime suspension from Bart Giamatti, and there really isn't much more I can say about that. I did agree to review it. It is under review. We do spend some time discussing it. But it's not I think appropriate for me to say any more." I dont think this really means anything, i mean, Rose is never getting reinstated. But it's a slow news day. - The French think of EVERYthing

Cincy Should Have All-Star Game
With all of the baseball tradition attached to the Reds, you would think MLB would make a special point to put an ASG at Great American Ball Park. MLB could showcase the Reds Hall of Fame. GABP deserves to host before Citi Taxpayer Field.

FWIW
The Mets haven’t hosted an All Star game since 1964. The Reds have hosted 2 since then. Pittsburgh is the only city to have hosted twice since the Reds last hosted.

Yankees?

Arizona in 2011, New York in 2013
I guess the reds didn’t do such a great job hosting the civil rights game after all…
Made from 100% Recycled Awesome,
I just can't get upset about this
For all intents and purposes, neither of those teams have hosted a modern All Star game (it will be almost 50 years since the Mets last hosted). There are 30 teams in baseball and it’s only been 21 years since the Reds hosted. Everybody’s got a new park, so it’s not like baseball should be falling all over themselves to get an All Star game for the Reds.

i think im more upset that New York gets another All-Star game so soon
i understand that the Mets havent hosted one in 50 years, but the Yankees just hosted last year.

Don't forget California/Los Angeles/Los Angeles of Anaheim/Anaheim
In the early days of the device they were made of straw, sheepskin and granite... I've seen pictures of the one Babe Ruth used and while it's a step up from the devices that Ben Franklin and, say, Billy the Kid used it's still positively barbaric. And the gromits, if you can call them that, were made of corn husks. -Judge Montgomery Davies

eh
I bet each team’s fans would think it is totally different.

i do think it should be looked upon as a benefit for the city and community
not the individual team.
Made from 100% Recycled Awesome,
I thought the Civil Rights Game was a proving ground for ASG hosting
I guess they failed?
It really doesn’t seem fair, but it’s not quite as unfair as I thought it was. GABP opened in 2003 and the Reds last hosted the ASG in 1988. The only venues that would really be leapfrogging our stadium would be Citi Field and Anaheim Stadium, the 2010 site that last hosted the ASG in 1989. Anaheim and New York are the only cities that will have hosted twice by 2013. So it seems like the Reds deserve to host within the next 3-4 years, though Tampa Bay – and others? – might make a similar claim.

Kansas City, Los Angeles Dodgers, Minnesota Twins, and Oakland also haven't hosted since the Reds last hosted
it’s been 36 years since KC hosted, and by all accounts it’s a beautiful park (though it looks like they’ll get the game in 2012). Dodgers last hosted in 1980. Twins hosted in 1985, Oakland in 1987. Overall, there should be 9 total teams that haven’t hosted since 1988. (NYM, KC, LAD, MIN, ARI, TB, FLA, OAK, WAS)

How many of those have new ballparks?
The mets have a one year old stadium.
Washington has a couple year old stadium.
Minnesota and Florida are getting new parks.
I don’t know about the other parks
Made from 100% Recycled Awesome,
That's the issue I guess
Should the site be awarded based principally on the city or age of stadium. There’s also the issue of expansion teams. Tampa Bay has never hosted, but they’re only existed since 1998, so you could say in a sense they haven’t hosted for 11 years, whereas it’s been 21 for the Reds.
Seems like the main criteria would be how long since the city’s hosted, some seniority handicap, then stadium new-ness.

Didn't know it was quite that many
I guess it just boils down to the LA-NY hegemony. There’s no way the Angels shouldget it next year and I think the Mets deserve to get in the back of the line behind any stadia built after PNC, especially since the Yankees had it in ’08.

It's under review
The Cincinnati Reds application to host an all-star game is under review. Bud Selig received the paperwork in 2003, the season that the Reds opened their new stadium. Selig said it was on his desk, next in line under his file on Pete Rose’s reinstatement case.

lol Francouer

only one more day
until Homer vs. the Brew Crew. All this ASG hoopla has made me want to see our faltering team once again. Absence makes the heart grow fonder I suppose lol.
Just saw this
Discount Tix available to tomorrow’s game. Reds will make donation for every ticket purchased to UNICEF to buy neonatal tetanus shots. Ticket prices aren’t bad either, $23 infield box, $13 Moon deck if you use the coupon code.

I'm in Louisville
Just toured the Louisville Slugger factory. If you’ve never been, I think it’s worth your time. I got to hold one of Mickey Mantle’s bats, and see some of David Wright’s being made. They also had some bats that they’d recently made for some major leaguers, including two for Jay Bruce. That made me sad, because I knew he wasn’t going to be using them any time soon (although if he had, he wouldn’t have been hitting anything with them any time soon). Apparently, every bat for every major leaguer is made on just one computerized lathe. There was a pretty strong Reds presence, which was refreshing for me. Even a video about the “Heart of Baseball” that included an interview with Dusty Baker. Of course it did.
And you get a free mini-bat on your tour!

I went when I was like 10.
I remember it being awesome. It was a pretty kid-friendly place, if you’re a kid interested in baseball.
