The Reds are frustrating
Well, I was really excited about this team and the youth movement. They finally have the pitching, but they can't hit.
Joey Votto is the backbone of the offense and he's out. Tavares looked like a nice addition but he's constantly injured and he's also gone into a hitting funk.
Jay Bruce looked like he was going to replace Dunn's power, and instead he's replaced Dunn's low average and K's. We have no legit third baseman. Our SS is coming off an entire season of not playing. LF was filled by giving tryouts, although I do like Laynce Nix.
I gotta really question management on this one. Or maybe they didn't expect this team to contend? Maybe they wanted to see what they had this year and made the changes for next year after evaluating everyone? I dunno. Frustrating to say the least. I think we lost 11 games in May by 2 or less runs. We lost last night 2-1. Very frustrating. The pitching keeps us in it and nobody can get a clutch hit.
Just had to vent.

I hear ya
But consider that with all the problems we’ve had, we still haven’t fallen apart.
If we can play 0.500 ball until everyone gets back, we should be in pretty good shape when they do arrive. Jay is just 22, and often plays like he’s 22. He’s going to be a stud, no worries.

i hate to say this
and i don’t think this is going to happen, but my worst fear is Jay Bruce turns into Correy Patterson. His OBP is probably why i fear that.

The team is improved over last year's model
When the hitting comes around – no worries

Why care about this team when Mike LIncoln is still on it and put in a tight game? Ridiculous.

Because a season lasts for 162 games
If one bad night or player or manager move is enough to make you not care about the team, then you need to find a new sport to follow. No team has a roster of 25 perfect players, who never make mistakes, and never lose. Calm down, it’s a long season.

Making the way in the world today takes everything you've got
Taking a break from all your worries sure would help a lot

No wonder we’re losing. The fans are so patient and tolerant. I blame the fans.

this statement doesn't make any sense
for one, most Reds fans aren’t patient and tolerant. second, how does being reasonable about a small market professional baseball team make the team lose?

Okay, thanks.
Really……I’m not trying to be rude…….but I was really fired up about this team and the lack of offense is really frustrating me.
June games – 3 wins, 4 losses……L 2-5, L1-3, L1-2, L 3-6 in 14 innings. What could’ve been. Good pitching, no hitting.
May games – 15 wins, 13 losses……L 6-8, L 2-3, L 3-15, L 7-8, L 3-5, L 5-6, L1-3, L 3-4, L 5-12, L 6-7, L 2-3, L 5-9, L 2-5.
It just seems like management is going to sit on their hands and do nothing. Typical of Cincinnati professional sports. They think small market and never do anything big.

You were critical of fans earlier
I think the reason it may seem like people on this site aren’t worried is because many of us figured this team would be improved though not necessarily competitive this year. So basically everything they’ve done so far is just gravy. We knew it was not a team that would able to survive the loss of any key players and now with both of their two best hitters on the DL and one of their top pitchers out (strangely, that may be the least of their worries), it’s not surprising to see them struggle. I want them to win, but fixing what ails this team is something that won’t happen easily.
Besides, I believe the ultimate goal is to build a winner not for this year, but for the next decade. I’d hate to see the Reds sacrifice the long term health of the organization in an attempt to simply win now. I’d love to be able to acquire somebody like Matt Holiday, but not if it means giving up 3 prospects. Three months of Holiday’s service is not worth that. It’s not a matter of thinking small market, it’s a matter of thinking long-term. Being good for one year does not hold fan interest. Just ask the Bengals.

I definitely get the frustration
And I’m not adverse to trading good prospects if it makes sense. In a year or two, I would love to see us pull something off like Milwaukee’s Sabathia trade if we’re in a position to go for it. I just don’t see one bat making a big enough difference to make us real contenders this year. I could change my mind if Votto returned next week and led the team on a serious month-long tear, but right now it’s premature to do anything big.
