Reds acquired from the White Sox C Corky Miller for OF Norris Hopper. Miller will report to Louisville. Does this make room at AAA for Chris Heisey? AAA needed a catcher after Wilkin Castillo went down.

im not sure i understand this at all

if they just needed a warm body to catch in AAA, isnt Javy Valentin a free agent? im not exactly attached to Hopper as a prospect, but it strikes me as strange to trade something of actual value (even if it’s very little value) for something of absolutely no value. whatever.

I agree

yeah

after reading what i said, i think i came off as more angry than i am. im totally ambivalent to the loss of Hopper and i hope it really is seen as a way to get someone like Frazier or Heisey up to AAA. but honestly i would rather they DFA McDonald or Hopper than trade one for someone like Corky Miller. it’s just embarrassing.

maybe LLM doesn't want to go to AAA?

Maybe LLM don't have a choice :)

Perfect time to break this out again

I saw Corky Miller on Opening Day, I was all excited. The dollar concessions booth:

This actually made me smile

I can’t imagine anyone I would rather have as catching chaff than Corky Miller. Do they need Jason Romano as a middle infielder?

by Cy Schourek on Jun 26, 2009 1:34 PM EDT reply actions

The Reds needed a veteran catcher in the minors.

Corky will be used strictly as a guy to help bring along AAA pitchers. Even the Reds wouldn’t mess around with ever having him on the 25-man. I think it also means the Reds consider Hanigan a major leaguer for good now.

by Brian B on Jun 26, 2009 1:57 PM EDT reply actions

That was exactly what I thought when I heard about the trade.

I think it’s a good idea to have a veteran catcher to handle our young pitchers – Corky is our Crash Davis dammit!

Also, if Hernandez or Hanigan gets injured, at least we have a warm body down in the minors – not that it would be a good warm body.

Maybe getting rid of NoHo opens an OF spot in Louisville for Taveras

Stubbs grabs 75N while Willy takes 75S.

Wily is here for the duration

or at least until the Reds are way way out of the chase. All it takes is an occasional night like last night where he produced both offensively and defensively to allow him to hang on to his faux tenure.

Wait, if Willy takes 75S he will end up in Lexington,

and eventually the Everglades.

Nevermind – forget I said anything. 75S it is!

He sits alone...Reds are not home.

Also if Willy is grabbing 75S...

he’d be on his way to Sarasota. 71S to Louisville.

Technically, he's right

To get to L’Ville you have to take 75S until 71S splits off just south of Richwood. :)

I was always meh on Noho...

didn’t love him, but didn’t hate him…

but think of all the money we would have saved with him instead on T-virus

( that is if we must have a CF who can’t hit the ball out of the infield )

at least Noho could bunt his way on fairly regularly
