It's not too late Reds. But you gotta do SOMETHING.

This team is driving me crazy.

If the talent on this team was sub-par, I'd be resigned to the fact that we were destined for another sub-.500 season. But it's not. This is a team that played like gangbusters earlier in the season, even without their best players. The Cincinnati Reds are a team that, once they get their collective heads of out their collective sphincters, they can take the Wild Card, if not the division. Now is the time. Tonight's loss in Toronto shows that.

Star-divide

I am all for trading Bronson. I love the guy, I think he's a great pitcher and I think he's a great presence in the clubhouse. But the guy is so hit and miss that it's driving me and everyone else bonkers. He's the guy I would put on the trading block and get someone in there to drive in some runs.

I think we need a new manager. I like Dusty but as Jim Morrison once put it, "the time to hesitate is through." It's one thing to try to help a guy work through a slump. It's another thing to keep playing a guy when he's gone 0-170 (or 0-34 or whatever the hell it is Willy is hitting). You're putting players over the team and that needs to stop, and it needs to stop now.

I love and have faith in this team but it's time to stop being ridiculous and start playing baseball.

I *think* robby krieger wrote the music AND lyrics to "light my fire"

I think Jim had some influence over the lyrics, as usual for the worse, but I think most of them are krieger’s.

But to your point, this team just isn’t that good. The pitching ultimately won’t be good enough to make up for an exceptionally bad offense, especially with Volquez missing more time. I kind of hope they pack it in rather than do something desperate and dumb…

It's all part of the plan

I think the Reds have decided to play for draft picks this year. :-P

Jocketty has a plan, and it doesn’t include winning this year. He said he was going to get a power bat for left field. Instead, we got Darnell McDonald and Laynce Nix.

I think the economy is hurting the Reds a lot more than they are letting on. It’s not just attendance. These days, sports teams from Little League to the Major Leagues are dependent on corporate sponsorships. Jeff Conine’s former Little League system saw sponsorships drop from $40,000 to $3,000. At PNC Field, the prime seats that used to be sold out due to corporate season tickets are now available at every game. You gotta think the Reds are probably facing similar cutbacks. The auto industry and the banking industry are big sports sponsors…and two of the hardest hit industries.

In the off-season, Selig brought Paul Volcker in to warn the owners of economic doom. Supposedly, what he said was so sobering the owners were pale as they left the room afterwards.

The Reds, like many teams, tightened the purse strings. And I don’t think the team has shown us anything that justifies changing that. Trading Arroyo won’t be enough to make a difference. And firing the manager mid-season…how often does that work, to turn a team around?

I agree

I’d appreciate it if we could consolidate these rants that keep ending up in FanPosts. I’m going to leave this one up because I think BubbaFan’s comment is worth leaving around, though the rest of you…

Maybe just start a fanpost for Random Rants?

They don’t even have to be about baseball.
