Things I don't want to hear while watching the College World Series
So I was watching ASU vs. Texas last night, and our first round pick was pitching. He's doing pretty well for awhile, and then he gets in a little trouble--one man on, then he hangs a curve which gets pounded to drive the runner home.
And then the color guy and the sideline reporter start talking about how he's clearly shortening his delivery on his curveball to avoid the pain. WTF?
And then talking about the triceps tendonitis he's been dealing with this season. FTH?
And then speculating that it wasn't that big a deal because the coaches were watching him closely to make sure his delivery didn't change at all. Why wasn't Uncle Walt in there with a helicopter to airlift Leake to an undisclosed location? Or put another way, why did we draft a guy who has a boo-boo?
Turtle, make me feel better on this...

im sure the Reds did their due diligence on this
if it were really a big deal, we would have heard every informed blogger (Turtle) roaring about how the Reds drafted a bum arm.
right?
oh yeah, and Leake was pitching on 2 days rest. that’s what i thought this post was going to be about it when i clicked it. that shouldnt be a big deal either because he only threw like 50 pitches in his previous game, but yeesh. there aint much coming out of Arizona making me feel good about this guy today.

I'll give it a shot.
Biceps tendonitis doesn’t bother me much. Joba Chamberlain battled that part of his last season at Nebraska and he’s been OK. Not a picture of health mind you, but it wasn’t the bicep that has caused him trouble at the MLB level.
Leake was a workhorse all season. I do think he’s getting tired, though. Orel Hershiser noted that Leake’s arm angle has dropped as much as six inches of late, which makes his stuff flatter and more hittable. The tendonitis could explain that. Could simply be fatigue. Pitching 142 innings in the desert had to have worn on him this season.
I expect the Reds to sign him and put him on a shelf until spring. That wouldn’t be a bad thing at all.
