Visiting for game, where 2 stay, downtown Cincy or N KY?

I'm visiting this weekend to see the reds with a group a big drinkers, and we are not familiar with the area. Where is the best spot to be, so that we are as close as possbile to great bars and late-night eating, specifically sports bars and pubs, not dance clubs. We are considering downtown in Cincinnati or perhaps accross the river in  the Convington or Newport areas.

Also, is there any place we absolutely should go to? I see a lot of mentions of Hooters in Newport and caddillac ranch in Cincy. Any help os greatly appreciated.

nobody?

there arent too many hotels in Newport. Hooters? Meh.

Cincinnati has some solid hotels but zero nightlife, imho, downtown. But im too old for the Cadillac Ranch, admittedly. I avoid the douchebag entourage scene whenever possible.

Covington might be the best option. Plenty of places to eat and drink in the Mainstrasse district and there’s some hotels pretty close down on the riverfront.

Hmmmm

Mt. Adams has a nice late-night atmosphere, but I don’t think there are hotels up there. It would be a rather lengthy and steep walk, or a short cab ride.

Covington’s Mainstrasse has some nice bars and pubs as well, with hotels mostly a couple blocks away towards the river. Unfortunately, Mainstrasse is a slightly longer walk to the ballpark. Also, the areas between the hotels and mainstrasse can be slightly dodgy.

The only Newport hotel I know of is a very modest establishment right at the end of the Taylor-Southgate Bridge, which leads almost directly to the park. The Newport-on-the-Levee complex has several bar-pub type places, and an ‘adult arcade’ thingy which has a bar. There’s also the aforementioned Hooters and other places on barges in the river, but you’d probably want to go to Hofbrauhaus, I think they probably run the kitchen on a limited menu until late.

Downtown, I’ve not seen what kind of crowds Cadillac Ranch or Bootsy’s bring in that time of day, but I do like Arnold’s, on 8th St between Main and Sycamore.

I think I would know Nora's fart anywhere. I think I could pick hers out in a roomful of farting women.

From the POV of a 25 YO...

I would stay downtown and cab it to either Newport (N. KY) or Mt. Adams. If you do want to go out downtown stay on 7th street (between Main and Elm)

Stay away from: Mainstrase (Covington, N. KY) which has turned trashy since the killing at Mulligans and Cadillac Ranch which was cool for a summer now it’s nothing but 30 something batchelorette parties.
