Owings is bending and not breaking, so far.  The offense is doing just enough not to get fired.  Kinda like me.

i can't immagine that sliding helps in a force play at first base

seeing that hitting the ground slows you down. I want a study, with a pie chart.

Of course it doesn't.

You can run through the base, so there’s no point in sliding.

The announcers haven't actually seen the teams' intra-division records, have they?

MIL 21-10
STL 19-15
CIN 20-16
CHI 17-17
PIT 13-21
HOU 12-13

How could they possibly argue that the Reds have done the best against other teams in the Central, and definitely they’re in a separate category with the Brewers?

Man, you got to take a moment to stop and appreciate this team.

Yeah the pitching can be frustrating. Yeah, the hitting is abysmal. Yeah, we’ve lost some games we absolutely should’ve won. But it’s mid-June, and we are 2 1/3 innings from being a half game out. All is right in the world.

I just never was an Austin fan

When he was with the reds he for sure showed promise but I just never got that excited by him .I know that he was at one time revered at RR cause when i first started posting her there was a lot of bitterness cause he and Lopez were traded. but neither of them struck me as that good. Kinda hits me like EdE does, although he’s actually had better years..but something was amiss with all 3 of those guys… don’t know exactly how to say it..but they neither seemed like they were gonna be at dunn’s level, or that they had a burning desire to win (now i’m editorializing0

One of the true joys of this series

has been getting to see just how small Danny Ray is in person. So tiny. Before the game, he was walking out to the bullpen with Burton and Fisher, and just looked kinda like a kid in the Make-a-Wish program. I yelled his name really loud, and he looked over at me sort of confused and annoyed. And small.

by Brendanukkah on Jun 11, 2009 10:38 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

My dad bumped into Owings, Burton and DRH at a downtown bar

about about a month ago. We’re small people (my dad and I are both 5-7) and he said Owings was like a mountain … then Danny Ray popped up, looked at my dad, and said ‘Hey, there is someone smaller than me here.’ My old man said he’s barely 5-8 or 5-9. Only professional athlete the old man’s ever been able to look directly in the face without craning his neck.

I think I could take him in basketball.

Bring in a right handed pitcher.

I was actually wondering why they left DRH in to face a right-handed batter (Gonzalez) who hits .400 off LHP.

Then I remembered. Masset is unavailable because Dusty had to use him for two innings last night because he screwed up the whole Coco thing.

It's not really Rosales's error

BP took the throw from Gonzalez and was in a tough position to make the DP. Even a perfect throw probably wouldn’t have gotten Zimmerman. Instead, he had Alberto Gonzalez barrelling in on him, making a good, hard slide in second. The throw bounced a good 8-10 feet in front of Rosales. Perhaps a Gold Glove first baseman comes up with it on the bounce, but Rosales had no chance. It was a bad throw, and a bad decision to even make the throw.

The offense is doing just enough not to get fired.

Perfect summation of the season so far… without Votto in the lineup its almost like they give up sound hitting as soon as they put a run or two on the board. They need Joey and Jay’s bats back very soon if they expect to contend in the NL Central because I’m not sure how long this bullpen can pitch as well as they are.
