Red Reposter - 5/16/09
I dont usually do Reposters on the weekends, but I came across some really interesting stuff that I wanted to pass on to you.
- This is one of the best reads I've come across in a long time. SBNation stalwart vivaelpujols attempts to examine the MVP vote by quantifying how much a player helped his team get to the playoffs. Really, really cool.
- Justin takes a look at the Reds' 1st round picks from 1965-2005 and gives career WAR totals for each. Not to spoil it, but the Reds have not really done well. It's pretty much Barry Larkin and not much else.
- The DDN is reporting that Kyle Lotzkar, one of the Reds best young pitching prospects and #8 on RRs top prospect list, may have re-broken the elbow he broke last summer. Doug is not enthused.
- Doug also passes on a few links from BA. Drew Stubbs and Featured Farmhand Matt Fairel are turning a few heads.
- Frustrated by the loss last night? Hall o' Famer Hal says Dusty's decsion to let Harang hit for himself in the 7th was the key point in the ballgame.
- Steve at RLN fondly recalls Pete Rose.
- As frustrating as the loss was last night, btcoop71 links us to a much tougher way to lose in the FanShots.

good 'ole hall o' famer hal
also seemed to think the Reds were losing when Harang came up for his last at bat……
Bloop
I think
I may have had the most ignorant baseball fans ever sitting behind me at the SWB Yankees game on Wednesday. Not stupid, just amazingly ignorant of general rules of baseball. They wondered aloud how many innings would be played. They couldn’t understand why everyone stood up during the 7th inning stretch.
And then there was former Red Gookie Dawkins. He was playing in the game, which caused some consternation from the fans behind me. They thought his name was racist. They noticed the message board in right field read “KKK” and thought it was a comment on the political incorrectness of Dawkins’ nickname. (It was actually keeping count of the pitcher’s strikes, of course.)

It's like the time (2006?) I went to Columbus Clippers/Norfolk Tides game and
Michael Tucker was playing for Norfolk.

Gookie Dawkins
is the SS for the Charlotte Knights, the White Sox AAA team.
All Things Bubba: Because how can you not love a baseball player named Bubba?
Even more surprising
is the fact that I (sorta) attend college in Charlotte and had no idea they had a AAA team there. Not exactly well-publicized, apparently.
well
School’s usually out for most of baseball season.
But if you’re still in Charlotte next month, the Lousville Bats will be playing a series there.

Love That Dusty (Fab thoughts from our Fav manager)
Here’s a fucking chuckle from Dusty regarding Aaron Harang form #1 Reds pitcher.
"He’s my ace," said Baker. "He doesn’t like to come out and we don’t like to take him out. He was on a roll at the time (one run, four hits over five innings). That’s why we let him bat and go back out there."
Once again Dusty shows why it isn’t necessary to think out of the box. Especially if you’re not thinking much to bein with.
Tune in again for Love That Dusty Sign up to win a Dusty-Pick!!!!
