Game 13, Thread 4: Paying the Piper
There is nothing I like about Cubs fans (except the hot chicks). We are losing 7-2 in the top of the 8th. All the luck we'd been having? The other shoe is dropping... hard.

Man, that's dedication
When I have a kid I’m making sure his first moments aren’t tainted by the mindless slog that is Reds fandom.

Well, I've got one, but I'd rather it be one that I can appreciate.
I wasn’t the Reds fan at age 8 that I am now.
"Screw it. We've got bigger problems than a butter shortage."
OK fine
I was 3, but that shit doesn’t count. Though watching the “Wire-to-Wire VHS” commemorative VHS after the Series is one of my earliest memories.
I moved out of town in December 1989
Watched whatever games I could on the old TeeVee. Got made fun of in school for rooting for a team from farm country.
The team in Connecticut's farm country is that one in the Western Reserve
by Brendanukkah on Apr 21, 2009 11:22 PM EDT up reply actions
Yeah luckily for me
When we moved we were still close enough that you could get a scratchy WLW in after 9 PM. Sustained me through my adolescent years.
In the summer, once I got my license
I could drive to high altitudes on clear nights and listen to the games
Kinda ridiculous isn't it?
But one day this team is going to make a run and it is going to be unbelievably fucking amazing for all of us out in the wilderness.
I remember watching the last out sitting in a beanbag chair (oddly specific)
and then getting up early the next morning and buying a WS Champions shirt.

i was 15 but a dodgers fan at the time ...

That was the year I started being a Reds fan
I thought it would be championships and glory all the time. Right around the time the Bengals went to the Super Bowl too. Fuck you, Cincinnati sports, and your long, proud tradition of jerking me around.
by Brendanukkah on Apr 21, 2009 11:20 PM EDT up reply actions 1 recs
That's what I'm talking about!
I grew up thinking Cincy was good. Now I am pitied by smug East Coast sports fans.
When and if the Reds or Bengals win again
It will be worth it. That’s what we tell ourselves right?
That’s better than buying a championship.
Although I have great respect for capitalism and how baseball is the only sport that is truly capitalistic and democratic.
My friend who has Yankee tickets and has been to a few World Series final games
Has promised me his ticket should the Reds play the Yankees in the Series
I remember my mother specifically telling me "This doesn't happen every year."
I was 6. And in Little League. And rocking a Chris Sabo flat top.
I thought she was full of shit.
/sigh

That's awesome
My grandmother still has their bicentennial stuff laying around the house. I took two things of my grandfather’s from there when he died — an autographed 1976 WS pennant and his don’t 1976 ’Don’t tread on me flag.’

I was a college Senior and it was just awesome
Every game all season was full of interest and sMarty had turned into a bitter old man yet.
I was in highschool and drove from Indy to Cincy and bought a
scalped Game 2 ticket. I was in the Red seats in LeftField and boo’d Rickey Henderson constantly. Greatest sporting event I have ever been to.
Forget that
One just teases you. And you get excited for each season for the next 10 years because you know that it could happen. Then when it doesn’t after 10 years, you just get excited to follow the team each year but only because your heart doesn’t know any other way to beat.
hopefully the same year as the hoosiers sixth ncaa title

And the final tally
6 for 33: .182 batting average
3 walks, 11 SO
.257 OBP and .333 SLG for the night
1 SB, 0 CS!!!!
4 of tonight’s starting 8 are batting < .200; 6 of the 8 < .250.
and our #5 starter couldn’t finish 5 innings. Ugh! It’s gonna’ be a long hard struggle to not lose 90.

Hate the Cubs
There is honestly nothing I hate more than going to the Reds / Cubs game and losing to that sorry group of fair weather fans. I saw plenty of Reds there tonight, although our team decided not to show up. I feel like it’s going to be another long night tomorrow defending my new Bruce jersey against the retard cubs fans that can’t name who is in right field let alone know who I’m sporting. I HATE THE CUBS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
