Dutch Baseball

It is set in stone, the plane tickets, train tickets, and hotel rooms are paid for.  I will be in Europe from June 2nd-15th.  I will be in Amsterdam from the 6th-9th, does anyone know anything about Dutch baseball?  I would really like to take in a Dutch baseball game while I am there.  The only site I could find on the subject is the Netherlands offical website which oddly enough is in Dutch.

I will also be in Ireland and Germany, but I am pretty sure that they do not have professional baseball.

Maybe Alexander Smit has a FAQ section on his website

You should also look to pick up a Sulbaran jersey over there.

perhaps i will

but watching international baseball is thing for me. I wish I could have saw a Cuban game while I was in Havana. If something better comes up, I’m ditching the game, if there is one.

god this was a justin post.

You've posted this picture of the Chè Hotel often enough that RR has to be pretty far up on the GIS for it now.

I hope you’re not spending too much time in Germany. Amsterdam’ll obviously be a blast and I liken Ireland to the somewhat less depressing version of Scotland. Have fun!

well it is a trip with my dad

he has never been overseas, so I can’t have too much fun in Amsterdam… I really want him to have a chance to get out of the country, and I’m always up for leaving.

I’m spending 4 days in Ireland, 4 days in Amsterdam, and 5 days in Berlin.

of course it’s going to be a blast. Enjoy the Netherlands, just remember not to use “”http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robin_Van_Persie#Personal_life" >Robin Van Persie taught me everything to know about girls" as a pick-up line.

Justin, Ireland (and Germany) has professional baseball

If you want to go, first visit this site: http://www.baseballireland.com/. The Dublin Hurricanes are Ireland’s most successful franchise. There’s only the amateur league, but some of them are really good and worth seeing. I think half the players aren’t Irish. There was almost a professional league, but when the Olympics decided to get rid of the sport, that really killed Irish baseball. They were starting to get pretty good – took bronze medal in Euro B league a few years ago after losing pretty much every game the previous year.

Team Ireland plays on O’Malley field, built with the funds of Peter O’Malley, the Dodgers former owner, so they are on the MLB map as far as scouting is concerned. Maybe one of these days – the Irish are great at sport.

If you want to learn more about Irish baseball, I suggest purchasing The Emerald Diamond, an excellent documentary about it. Very funny stuff, from the birth of their suckiness to their only sort of suckiness. (Maybe you’ve heard of the minor league show “Playing for Peanuts” – John Fitzgerald is the same director. NY based Irish kind of guy.)

Cormac Elkof is probably the most famous Irish baseball player, and he has a blog here if you want to check it out: http://irishbaseballseason.blogspot.com/. It’s a really informative blog.

Unfortunately, the Irish baseball fans follow that other team with the red socks. But I suppose that’s excusable in their case…

By the way, have fun

I’d love to catch a Dutch ballgame, esp since they’re pretty good!
