Took me awhile to figure it out, but I finally did.
(note: the D-backs did not actually record the fourth out of the inning)

that's not actually four outs though

in the same sense that this would have been. That’s more like a shortstop getting an assist on a throw to first, but the first baseman drops the throw for an error.

that'd be like

the batter reaching first and them putting 3 outs on the board

I wonder what happens in the box score if you have 4 outs in an inning?

Does the pitcher get credit for another 1/3 inning pitched?

I would think so

i think the way it is

is that if the D-Backs had appealed the call at 3rd and recorded the out, that runner would then become the 3rd out instead of scoring. and the out at 1st would then become moot. so while existentially there would be 4 outs, only 3 outs would be recorded in the ledger. at least, that’s the way im seeing it.

Classy Cardinals Reprise!

I hope to construct a music video montage of classy St. Louis Cardinal moments, perhaps setting it to Mariah Carey's "Hero."

Please take a moment to find the classiest incidents in recent Cardinal history, and link to an article covering the event, or video or pictures if you can find them. And if you just have a ridiculous photo of a recent Cardinal, please post a link here to the highest resolution image you can find.

I think we can all learn from such a classy organization. Let's give it a try.
