Flag Please: DR v. The Netherlands
Edinson just threw out his first pitch and I know at least some of you guys are watching. That said, I though a game thread would be in order. And, of course, rather than going to the person who claims "First," bonus points go to the first person to post the flag.
UPDATE: I am under 75 words, and our own Edinson Volquez is facing some serious HAVOC.
UPDATE #2: Still under 75, and Edinson is apparently limited to 60 pitches.

top 2nd
Volquez walks the first batter. he looked pretty erratic against him. Steve Phillips tells me Volquez pitched well in the first, but fell victim to a few errors and a few infield hits.

I'm watching
Sir Sidney looks like he’s lost weight.

I like our staff, so I'm not jumping to get him
But the thought of the kind of knowledge he could impart and the impact he would have on Volquez and Cueto…. now that is damn enticing!

precisely
he’d be like Mario Soto, only closer.

plus,
without Freel, the Reds are in dire need of a midget/mascot/good luck charm

Smit
gave up a single to Robby Cano. Let one run score on a sac fly by Kingsale. Then IBB’d Big Papi. Then he was pulled.

Leon Boyd in to nail it down.
MLB affifiliation: none.
Love it.

Dunner walk
and blows up the 2b to prevent the double play. How’s that for HAVOC?

My mancrush on Votto is developing rapidly
He might be my new favorite Red, although Jonny Gomes has serious potential.

I love the Dutch language. You can allllmost figure out what that says.

So I see T-Virus infected
the Dominicans. Thrown out trying to steal third in the ninth when the team is down a run. Nice.

what was he thinking?
And yeah, I blame Taveras. I seriously doubt they sent him in that situation.

I'm more shocked that
T-Virus drew a walk to leadoff the inning…

he walked 3 times

by Charlie Scrabbles on Mar 8, 2009 11:06 AM EDT up reply actions
Something he's never done in a big league game
Hell, he’s only walked twice in a game 8 times in 541 career games.
BTW, Jay Bruce is not a noted walker by any stretch and he had 5 games last season with 2 or more walks. Yes, I said “or more” as in he had a 3-walk game at the end of August, in his 85th career game.
Maybe Willy is turning over a new leaf this year?
"How big IS your magic wand?"
Remember when JB struck out seven times in two games?
Check out his numbers after that lowpoint in his rookie season: .260/.362/.540
He continued to strike out a lot but nearly half of his walks came in that last month of last season. He was getting better and better later in the season….

no, seriously…
Must be someone else in T-Virus’s uni…

NoHo bunts cause he can't hit the ball out of the infield
and was fairly successful getting on base in 2007 with an OPB of 371 and an OPS .758
T-Virile will have to walk cause he won’t get on enough to warrant a leadoff spot – 2008 OPB.308 OPS .604
I know he stole 68 bases last year but let me ask again why do we have this guy? And why is Wily the starter in CF.
I’d rather have Jerry Jr/Chris D in center
Jr – 2008 OBP.384 OPs .871
C-Dick 2008 OBP .413 OPS 1.021 (small sample size)
This has all been discussed before…but Wily is going to play so here’s hoping he walks a lot or has a career year or both.
Perhaps a a flatbed truck loaded with cadavers will explode in front of a Star Trek convention. One can only dream and hope.
Both!
Pretty please, both?
Please?
I just hope he doesn’t often get caught stealing.

I think we’ll see that picture again in the game threads this year.
