Spring Game 30 Thread: Reds at Pirates
Johnny Cueto vs. Ross Ohlendorf. That's all the analysis you get. Isn't it about time for these Spring Training games to be over?
No EdE in the lineup again. Might as well put him on the DL now so that he can start getting work in the minor league camp when he's healthy enough to play. That way his DL stint can be retroactive to last Saturday instead of whenever he gets put into a game to play DH again.
See the lineups after the jump.
Game time is 1:05pm. The Reds are on the radio today, or you can check them out on Gameday.

I'm not sure
how bad EdE is hurting. He is DHing in a minor game. Hopefully he is almost ready. If not,it probably is a good idea to hold him out of the big legue games to shorten his time on the DL.
I'm actually going to listen to this game today
just because I want to hear how much better Mercker will be than Brantley

What is the record for a team...
For times getting picked off, thrown out stealing, stretching base hits or taking the extra base in a spring training? The Reds must be nearing that by now.

Thom mentioned that Janish had been working out in the weight room
to try to get stronger to hit better, also hinting that he could be on his way north. If he can start hitting, he’s the best choice at SS.

i will take that glove
for me he doesnt even have to hit all that much as long as the rest of the team is producing
I'd agree with you
but he can’t be hitting under .200 like he was last year. If Dusty wants to bat him 8th and he can hit .250 or .260, I’d take it over Keppinger.

He played a couple of innings for the first time in three weeks yesterday.

Ross Ohlendorf
was one of the guys the Yankees got for Randy Johnson. They wanted Micah Owings, but the D-backs wouldn’t part with him. They got Ohlendorf instead.
Ohlendorf was told Saturday that’s he’s won a spot in the rotation. Former Yankee Jeff Karstens may win the fifth spot.

not so much that I'd ignore Rosales clearly better hitting stats from the minors
I see Rosales as more defensively versatile and a much better hitter. Either player is going to be a bench guy, no more, so it probably doesn’t matter, but I hope the Reds don’t make the decision based solely on 50 spring PAs.

yeah, but I doubt they'll keep a 4th shortstop
I realize that Janish should be the defensive replacement, but if Gonzalez is starting, then I doubt Janish replaces him and I doubt the Reds keep a defensive replacement around just for days when Gonzalez needs a day off. Now, if Gonzalez starts the year on the DL (hasn’t played since last Monday), I’d definitely take Janish. But if Gonzalez is healthy, I think the bench is better with Rosales on it.

29th of 30 in OBP (.298 v. .348 median)
