Not surprisd at the reassignments but...

with all of the WBC folks away, I thought for sure some of these guys would get more reps. Stubbs got no shot whatsoever did he? Guess Jacque Jones has to really ramp up to hit .210, eh Dusty.

Wear something sexy to my funeral.

Votto should be returning directly

Hence it’s really no surprise to see Yonder go sit at the kids table. Apparently Chris Kroski gets to stay while Mesoraco gets sent down though.

Does Willy Taveras ride dirt bikes?

If not, he should. And take up parkour. Anything to get him hurt.

I think these guys could still get reps in the big league camp

when needed, but they will get work and attention every day in the minor league camp. I think that is the logic behind it.

Just looking through the stats from Spring Training. Stubbs got just 13 plate appearances, 3 walks, 6 strikeouts, one hit (a double).

Are there ST splits anywhere?

no splits

reds.com has ST stats though.

It's a little bit frustrating...

that one of the things that many teams do in ST is put together a platoon at one position or another, yet one can’t find LHP/RHP splits posted anywhere.

Oh well, I’m sure Dusty’s got all that stuff at his fingertips.

In fairness,

IIRC Dusty had been delegating one of his coaches to supervise the lineup, and one coach was out of town on a family thing, forcing the lineup coach to the bases…or maybe the lineup coach was the one out of town…

But pitiful. And not clutch.

Valaika

I figured he would stick around alittle bit longer….it seemed to me that he was having a decent spring? Anyone?

by Teewrecks44 on Mar 10, 2009 7:13 PM EDT up reply actions

He was a super long shot to make the big club out of spring training

The plan is to play him in the minors this year, and putting him in the minor league camp right now just gives him a more regular opportunity to play. Same thing with all of these guys who were cut today. They’re not bad players. They’re just going to where they’re going to be.

Logan Parker

is not down with that. Unfortunately for him, he appears to be Yonder Lite (with active cultures). I guess the chip on his shoulder might motivate him.

This just in from rotowire

In case I’m not the last to know…

Mesoraco has had a sore arm this spring and hasn’t seen any time behind the
plate in spring training games, the Reds’ official site reports.

ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Devin Mesoraco ( C ) wasn’t a threat to make the Opening Day roster,
or really even the Opening Day roster in 2010. Still, it would have been nice
for him to get more time before minor league camps opened. He’s on a long track
with the Reds.

We need SOME catchers to go to minor league camp, especially with the WBC creating a shortage. Hey…doesn’t Paul Lo Duca need a job? Minor league deal for $400k w/ an opt-out clause if any team wants to give him a ML roster before the Reds do? The guy’s a 4-time all-star who had a lot of success just 2 years ago, and has caught nearly 1100 ML games. Surely he has a few things he could teach the youngsters, and more catchers in camp is always important this time of year.

Anyone agree?

Folks in DC hated him

He couldn’t keep the job over any of the scrubs on the Nats. I will give a big, fat pass to LoDuca. Anyone know what Pudge’s price tag is now?

by Brendanukkah on Mar 11, 2009 9:55 AM EDT up reply actions

I'd prefer Pudge in the same scenerio.

It might even be worth optioning out Hanigan until the All-Star break, and then trading either Ramon or Pudge. I’d love to see our young Dominican Dandies influenced by Hall of Famer Pudge.

im pretty confident in saying that Hanigan’s production this year will far outdo whatever Pudge does. mark it.

He's a roider, huh?

I suspected that when I saw the sudden drop-off in production, but I didn’t want to accuse him ignorantly. And his decline did coincide with him catching around 1000 MLB games and about 700 in the minors…all by age 34.

But I think roids explains it better.
