Spring Game 13 Thread: Reds at Yankees

MLB Florida and Arizona Spring Training - SB Nation

First night game in a while, and this time it is against the vaunted Yankees.  Well they would be vaunted if their lineup wasn't missing their regular C, 1B, 2B, 3B, and SS tonight.  Still, Nick Masset has his work cut out for him in the race to be the 5th starter.  Yes, I'm still rooting against him, but not so much that I want him to lose tonight's game.  I'm just rooting enough so that he won't win the 5th spot in the rotation.

Available out of the pen for the Reds tonight are RHP Jordan Smith, RHP James Avery, LHP Aaron Fultz and RHP Carlos Fisher.

The Reds offense will go up against Joba Chamberlain.  Chamberlain has an 18.00 ERA right now, so he must not be very good or something.  The big news tonight is that Alex Gonzalez will be playing shortstop for the first time in a Reds uniform since September, 2007.  I'm interested to hear BK's take on how well Gonzalez moves.

See the lineups after the jump.

YES Network? MLB Network? FSN? I'm not near a tv guide right now to know.

Which means

We have to sit through 15-30 minutes of talk about A-Rod’s hip before we get baseball.

Good looking out on the ST game on TV tonight….i have been wanting to see the Reds in action all spring….luckily i have the YES network on DirectTV is this game on any other channels?

On the first batter of the game

the announcer just said something to the tune of "this is what dusty is hoping for, get the first batter on and create some HAVOC on the basepaths….we’ll see…. nevermind…he just got thrown out trying to steal second

by Teewrecks44 on Mar 10, 2009 7:20 PM EDT up reply actions

I think it's only on YES

And on MLB.TV.

Joba the Hut

has kinda sucked so far this spring. Not really unusual for a young pitcher, but people are starting to get faintly concerned.

A leadoff single for Dickerson, on a 1-0 count.

Dusty is hoping for “havoc on the basepaths.” The announcers actually said that.

Bankston plays the game right

Hits a soft grounder to 2B – too soft for a DP.

The speedy Hanigan is in scoring position.

Holy crap! Dickerson singles to deep CF. Gardner misplays it. Or loses it in the lights. Or it blew off course. Gardner is known for his glove, but that wasn’t good.

Tied 1-1.

All Things Bubba: Because how can you not love a baseball player named Bubba?

by BubbaFan on Mar 10, 2009 8:05 PM EDT up reply actions

YES here as well

i get the YES network with DirectTV….its part of the sports package, which is practically worthless because you dont get pro games….they all get blacked out…college b ball games show up though…and this spring training game..so maybe its not completely worthless

by Teewrecks44 on Mar 10, 2009 8:06 PM EDT reply actions

Gotta buy the MLB extra innings package as well

where i used to live (Huntington, WV) we got FSN Ohio and Pittsburgh, so I could watch all the Reds games, except the business days specials on Thurs

by Teewrecks44 on Mar 10, 2009 8:07 PM EDT up reply actions

well, i live in Morgantown, WV now…going to pharmacy school here….i am not sure…i just only get games on FSN Pittsburgh now….I assumed that if you buy MLB.tv, you get all the games…but i will just spring for the 189 or whatever it is and buy MLB Extra Innings so I can watch on TV….sucks that I have to pay now for what I used to get for free….anything for the REDS

it does suck

but i feel like the days of corporate media BS have peaked. it’s just bad business to limit people like this.

if you get direct tv, though, you can pay for mlb.tv if you choose their internet option. it looks like they have some awesome features this year. dvr capability and the ability to choose radio feds over television audio. that sounds awesome.

by Daedalus on Mar 10, 2009 8:18 PM EDT up reply actions

Interesting

so you just plug your directv dvr into the computer with an ethernet cord, and you can get mlb.tv games like that? interesting….i think mlb.tv is alot cheaper than extra innings

HAVOC all year long

by Teewrecks44 on Mar 10, 2009 8:20 PM EDT up reply actions

no no

you have to get your internet connection through direct tv. instead of whatever you get. and internet through direct tv is like seventy bucks a month or something. so it probably isn’t cheaper. i don’t know. but it is an alternative. and i thought the dvr feature was cool. it’s mlb premium which is 20 bucks a month plus whatever direct tv internet is. it actually might be cheaper…

by Daedalus on Mar 10, 2009 8:27 PM EDT up reply actions

oh

ok…well, directv told me that they dont have internet service providers where i live…so i had to get my internet thru comcast….even more shitty….ill probably just suck it up and get mlb extra innings….at least i can watch other games too….i love to watch the other teams in the division and cheer them on to lose, especially the cubs

i just thought since they advertised hughes net every five minutes it was available everywhere.

No results found for “juan castro power”.

Here is the first picture that comes up:

The dude’s a freaking Matre d’ at the Hotel Villa Magna of Madrid, and his picture comes up over Juan, a veteran MLB player. That’s how little the man is associated with power. How embarrassing. And funny. And sad.

And not a bad euphemism “He has Juan Castro power,” or perhaps juancastropower.com is an idea worth stealing.

The runner on first base shall be the player (or substitute) who immediately precedes the batter who leads off the inning and the player on second base shall be the player(or substitute) who immediately precedes the player on first base. Why the hell was everybody watching the WBC game here?

isn’t this the Reds game thread? Was I the only loser who was actually in the WBC game thread?

So far

separate Reds and WBC game threads really isn’t working. People end up in the newest thread, talking about both.

I don’t think we have enough traffic to support two separate game threads at the same time.

Especially since there’s no convenient way to follow both, if they are both on the front page (as opposed to on the sidebar, where you can at least see if there are new comments in other threads).

I tried that

But it screwed up the “new” tags. They told me I shouldn’t have the site open in more than one window/tab at the same time.
