SISS - RR Summer Road Trip???

I watched Legends of the Fall yesterday for the first time in a least a decade. While I always considered myself a fan of the movie, I had honestly forgotten what it was about.

But that's not the point. It was the Montana scenery that made me want to travel to that state just to see it. I guess I've always wanted to go there. It's so beautiful.

I wanted to know if there was any interest in getting a group together and going to see the Mustangs some time this summer. I thought maybe we could organize a trip, maybe hire a van or an RV or something (or use one that someone already has?) and spend some time in Montana.

I'd be more than willing to handle the organization of such a trip. The Mustangs have been ours forever and it'd be nice to give them some love. And we could see Tom Browning (isn't he the Mustangs' pitching coach?) I don't know. Just a thought.

tHan might be in

Jimmy Buffett mentions Missoula and Montana in a few of his songs, i think The Great One might have spent some time there in his younger days.

As an aside Cincy pavillion seats are still available for Mr Buffett’s show this summer. They went on sale yesterday and i cant remember a local show not selling out here in less than an hour. Hell, he used to play 5 shows at Riverbend back in the heyday.

THAT might be the clearest sign of the times so far. Hope the Reds are paying attention to the signals the local economy is giving.

yup

i cant see how he’s commanding $136/per for the back of the pavillion. You’re talking close to a $400 evening if you take a date, tailgate and have some adult bevs during the show. too rich for my blood. dayyyyyyyum, its been 23 years since i saw him for the first time. Remember Timberwolf?

Ack. You were barely born, bro. And i was schlepping drinks as a 16 yr old.

Montana is gorgeous.

Same for Wyoming and Idaho. I’ve been to all of them several times, winter and summer. Snowmobilling through Yellowstone was magnificent. I was there one year when the fires were bad. As horrendous as they were, the rings of fire at night across the many lofty ridges was a spectacular sight.

Another time, I remember standing atop a mountain in Wyoming overlooking a deep, wide valley and actually looking down on a thunderstorm. “Awesome” is an overused word, but it’s as close as I can come to describing what that was like.

Visiting Lava Hot Springs near Pocatello, Idaho, when it was 27 below zero was an experience, as well. Yes, I got in the water. The 30-yard dash from the water to the clubhouse, however, felt like 30 miles. Wow!

Big Sky Country is aptly named. I’ve never seen so many stars. So if you go to see the Mustangs, make sure you get away from the city a little, too. The views are breathtaking.

Agree

I’ve spent some time in Yellowstone, the plains in the eastern part of MT, and in the mountains around Bozeman. It’s all unbelievably gorgeous.

I'm applying for park service jobs

in MT, WY, CO, and TX. Just something to do for a year while I defer law school.

Big Bend NP in Texas would be ideal right now, but it all sounds a bit gorgeous. If I end up North, I’ll let y’all know.

I did some backpacking in Big Bend

Really pretty country. The views from the south rim trail were something else.

That’s a Dylan song. Hendrix covered it. U2 is a distant third. And DMB does a good cover, too.

Brendan forgot to look at my screen name

I actually own far more Dylan than Hendrix, though.
