Feds investigating Bowden
"A federal investigation into the skimming of signing bonuses given to baseball prospects from Latin America is looking at Washington Nationals general manager Jim Bowden as far back as 1994, when he was GM of the Cincinnati Reds, according to a baseball executive familiar with the investigation."

I'm truly surprised he's made it this long
And through an ownership change, that’s the real miracle for him…
"Screw it. We've got bigger problems than a butter shortage."
Holy sheet
Don’t I know you?
I miss the old days of the internet when men were men, hot girls were middle aged men, and hot uderage girls were FBI agents.....
MLB Trade Rumors
has a rundown. WaPo is reporting that the owners are eager to be rid of Leatherpants, but are waiting for the investigation to finish.
Leatherpants says he’s innocent of any wrongdoing.
Maybe so, but perhaps it’s time to resign “for the good of the team” so he devote his time to clearing his name, not be a distraction, etc.?

When he was GM of the Reds?
I wonder whose bonuses he skimmed? Any players we would know?

Doesn't look good for Rijo, either
Last week a 19 year-old Nats signee, Esmailyn Gonzalez, was mentioned in one of the Reposters because he was actually 23-year-old Carlos Alvarez Daniel Lugo. Aside from the identity forgery, the signing looks suspicious because the Nats paid him 1.4M when the next highest bid was 700K. Also, the prospect’s agent negotiated with every team except for the Nats, whose negotiation was handled by the player’s buscon (per the article a person who trains amateur youth baseball players in exchange for a percentage of future signing bonuses). The Gonzalez signing has been included in the FBI’s investigation of bonus-skimming.
Rijo has served as a special ass’t to Bowden on Latin American issues, but this story looks particularly bad for him because the buscon is a childhood friend. Rijo is now on indefinite leave from the team.
I've always wondered
why the Reds ended their relationship with Rijo’s acadamy so abruptly.I wonder if they new something back then. I hope Rijo gets cleared of everything but at first glance it doesn’t look good.

Federal investigation
I hate to see Jose get screwed in all of this, But as far as LeatherPants, it could not happen to a nicer guy.
when leatherpants took over in DC
wasn’t the ownership group MLB? If so, shouldn’t someone there also be held accountable? Maybe this payola scandal goes higher up the food chain than we realize. Hopefully all the eay to Selig.
90 wins in 09!!
not that I am defending Bowden
I sincerly hope he gets Federal Prison Time. 2 winters minimum in some place very, very cold.
90 wins in 09!!
and maybe transfered to texas for the summer?

He'll get a new style of sweater
and perhaps he can develop some previously untapped talent

You gotta believe this guy knows how to grip a screwball.
Or maybe Jim will reunite with Toe Nash

Not a collection of my favorites:

That can't be Claus.
He’d have killed them by now.
