PrintI know we just had a big movie thread, but I thought there might be interest in the Academy Awards tonight. We can dish about the outfits, that dreamy Hugh Jackman, this year's movies and do a little gambling.
I started a pool at www.funofficepools.com. The site is a little clunky, but it's way better than some of the others I came across. After registering an account (free) click join pools

Choose 'Oscars' from the drop menu. Pool Name Red Reporter Password Taveras. It would be helpful if you make your Selection name the same or similar to your RR screen name. The Deadline is 8pm tonight.
To make things interesting I'll send an envelop to the winner, but I can't legally promise that it will include Academy screener DVD copies of all the best picture nominees (I also can't promise that on request I will swap out The Reader or Benjamin Button for something better like The Wrestler).

We have the option to weigh how many points each category is worth. It’s probably worth doing. I’m thinking 3 points for the big ones, 2 points for the others with movies people have seen or heard of, and 1 point for the shorts/docs/foreign films.

CINCINNATI — The Cincinnati Reds have agreed to one-year deals with outfielder Jay Bruce, reliever Jared Burton and nine other players.
The team announced the deals on Saturday.

Wall-E had the degree of difficulty
Almost no dialogue the first, what, 30-40 minutes? Pretty impressive. I thought Kung Fu Panda was aight, better than anticipated. I think I’ve seen every animated movie the past 12 years except Ice Age…..somehow I’ve missed out on that one.

The producers have kept it under wraps, but rumors have it the show will be revamped. They’re hoping to keep it close to 3 hours. Also they’re going to end with sneak peaks of movies to come next year, supposedly showing clips that we haven’t seen in trailers.

The old woman in front of me didn’t realize that “Pussy Juice” wasn’t part of the movie. She thought it was a real commercial.

Traditionally, the previous year’s winner has presented to the opposite gender — last year’s Best Supporting Actor presents this year’s Best Supporting Actress, and so on — and if Heath were to win, clearly he’d be unable to present next year. Did they trot out this new format this year to lay some precedent in the case that they had to cover themselves next year?
