Griffey will exit with Grace
The Kid is going home to the Mariners (deal pending).
This makes me happy to see Junior end his career the right way. Going back on a farewell tour, delighting the fans with some dingers then making the slow walk off the stage. I am just glad he chose this route, rather than try to latch on with a team in playoff contention. I understand the disappointment of not winning the big one, but it is always a shame when a great player hops from team to team at the end of his career in hopes of winning it all.
Congrats to you Griff, may your final tenure in Seattle be injury free, full of homeruns, and surrounded by fans who adorn you. You deserve it.

Rotowire has it as a pending ONE YEAR DEAL.
Griffey is expected to receive a one-year contract from the Mariners by the
end of Thursday, the Seattle Post-Intelligencer reports.
Griffey is the Mariners’ backup plan. The team ideally
wanted a bat like Bobby Abreu or Adam Dunn, but Seattle’s already high payroll
prevented a move in that direction. So now the team turns to Griffey and a
cheap contract loaded with incentives, hoping nostalgia will bring fans to
the park even if Griffey’s play does not.

That makes more sense
But not the payroll part. They couldn’t afford one year of Abreu at 5M? Too bad. It’s plausible that they could contend next year. They were so bad at 1b/dh with Sexson and Vidro that a Dunn/Abreu type combo could really make a difference.

Baseball is the only sport that does this, right?
I mean, I’m ticked about Willie Anderson playing with the Ravens all the way thoguh the playoffs…but it happened. Anyone else think this sort of thing is weird?

Griffey
I wish him well. Hopefully he has a little gas left in the tank and can get a nice tour of Boston, NY and the like.
I’d love to see him go out with a 20+ HR year, but…
A certain first ballot Hall of Famer in 2015. he should be unanimous since he will be the star of his generation to go through baseball life steroid/accusation free.

Quater 'til 1am
Back from a rough rough rough nite at the lanes
If Jr. feels remotely as drunk and stuporific after 9 hard innings as I do after a hard night of bowling – well give the man his props.
If at first you don't succeed, failure may be your style.

Griffey says it's all just a rumor
Sporting News has the scoop:
“We don’t know what we’re doing next year with respect to Seattle. It’s all rumors,” Griffey said Thursday after finishing his round at the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am in California.
Goldberg, in an e-mail Thursday evening, said: “There is nothing specific to report. The Mariners and I have had discussions but there is nothing definite.”

I think that's a non-denial from Griffey
signalling that nothing is yet signed. Whereas, doesn’t he usually deny instead of parse like this?

They said on the radio this morning they were nearing a one year deal worth $5 million
Seems like a good deal for all parties if that’s the case.

Stop the presses! Griffey to Braves?
Two baseball sources told ESPN.com on Saturday that the Atlanta Braves are making a late play for Griffey and have begun discussing money with his agent.
The interest is apparently mutual. Griffey lives in Orlando, Fla., where Atlanta’s spring training site is located, and has a good relationship with Braves manager Bobby Cox.
Griffey would also be willing to split time with Matt Diaz in left field for the Braves, sources said.
