Rangers interested in trading for Rhodes, I've got an idea...

Jocketty doesn't want to trade Rhodes apparently. He is very good, but with our depth of lefty relievers (herrera, bray, viola) i think he is someone we could part with.  Also it would be nice to dump the 2 million dollar contract.... Here is my proposed trade idea...

Star-divide

I'd be willing to give Texas a package similar to this...

Arthur Rhodes, Chris Heisey, Matt Maloney

for

Nelson Cruz

I realize that Texas might not want to move Cruz because he is only owned something like 400K this year, but if they get two major league ready prospects and a reliever back it may be worth their while.

Heisey I think we should try to move now... his value is at its peak, and he doesn't project to be anything special at the big league level in terms of power or speed.  I love the way he plays the game, but it would be worth it for a big right handed bat like cruz who could protect votto. Cruz can also run very well. If he could play everyday for us and provide us with 30 hrs and 20 sbs i think he would be a huge asset.  Also, we wouldn't need to sign gomes which would save us even more money. Im ready to give up Maloney too, he is simply not going to workout well in GABP.  He is a flyball pitcher in a homerun ballpark...

Of course this probably will never happen but im just treading water waiting for Walt to make someeee sort of move.  Its terrible seeing all these trades happen because its getting me all excited for baseball and my club doesnt have money to even think about making a move.  ugh.  anyway, let me know wut u guys think. thanks!

This is in interersting deal

It’s a borderline “quantity for quality” deal that you see frequently on blogs but rarely in real life. However, I think Heisey is a better than average prospect. If Maloney’s not suited for GABP though, then he’s equally not suited for The Ballpark either. So, I’m not sure I see the Rangers being all that interested in him.

The real question for me is what is Nelson Cruz’s true value? He was a 3.6 WAR player last year, but why was his age 28 season his first full season in the big leagues? I’ll admit that I didn’t know anything about Cruz until last year. Why did he tear it up for 5 years in the upper levels of the minors but never get a real shot in the big leagues until last year? What was holding him back? Is it something that should be a concern about his future prospects? I’m always a little nervous about trading for someone who has a breakout year as a 27-29 year old. Could it just be a peak season anomaly?

Nelson Cruz

is a late bloomer, who was pegged as an AAAA player.

So was Brady Clark, so was Chris Denorfia

it could cut either way, I suppose

trade him?

probably could get a decent minor league reliever for him, I would think.

Like Slyde said, trade him

Cruz > Gomes, but the upgrade from Gomes to Cruz isn’t enough to make the Reds an above .500 team in 2010, so give up practically nothing (Rhodes, Heisey/Stubbs, Maloney, and pick another one of our crappy yet for whatever reason overrated pitching prospects) to get Cruz, then trade Gomes for more parts that could help us for 2011.

Keep playing for the next year, that’s The Lost Decade….

I think this deal depends on how you view Heisey

If you think that Heisey has a ceiling higher than Cruz’s current level of production, then you don’t make the deal, but if you see Heisey as a 4th outfielder, then this is a good deal for both sides. I’m not too torn up about giving up the pitchers because those are dime-a-dozen guys in this organization (bullpen arms and back of the rotation starters), so it really depends on what the organization thinks of Heisey.

It seems like a risky kind of deal for someone with Cruz’s past. I’d tread lightly with that one if I’m the Reds.

Love the deal, but why on earth would they trade Cruz

If I were the Rangers I would rather have Dickerson than Heisey, and Wood than Maloney. C Dick profiles as a better CF and they need to get the Hammer out of there.

I would still do that deal Wood, C Dick, and Rhodes for Cruz. As I thought last year LF should be our #1 priority.

If we do that the team is pretty much set. At SS I would go with Janish if we couldn’t trade for Maicer.

If I were the Rangers it would take ALOT to pry Cruz away.
