Around SBN: SB Nation interviews Jerome Bettis

Redsfest Recap thread

After taking last year off due to parental responsibilities (and kids' disinterest in attending) I was back, yet again, at Redsfest this year.  I didn't get to ask ED44 if he was rooting for USC/UCLA while at the sports bar, play Reds Jeopardy against Slyde, or see Ash like I have in years past....but this year's event had some memorable moments, fo shure.

*I bought an actual game used jersey.  Fanatics of this here website can probably guess which jersey is now hanging in the closet.

*I watched Slyde and BK buy game used Spring Training jerseys.

*I got to meet the Reds first African American ballplayer, again.

*The sports bar area was riveted to the ending of the UC/PITT game.  The Bearcats' final touchdown got the loudest ovation of the afternoon.  It was a Roar.  I thought El Nino Destructor had entered the building.  The main stage's interview session had to momentarily pause due to the crowd noise.

*I listened to Bronson Arroyo sing one acoustic song.

*I watched Micah read a children's book to a herd of younguns.

*I purchased non-baseball related Xmas gifts for my sis and her hubby.  I was given a suit bag to put his present in and carry.  So....if you saw a semi-tall dude in a #60 jersey carrying a suit bag, yeah I was That Guy.

*Met two pretty funny fellows from another Reds website.  OMG something or other.  They knew Slyde, of course.  One was wearing a Scott Ruskin jersey albeit the Big Red Machine style.  That was pretty impressive.

*jch won the speed pitch, again.  this year he ran unopposed and racked up an awe inspiring 63mph.  sadly, i've retired from this competition.  Age has caught up to me and I still remember the fingers going numb last time i huffed and i puffed up.  i'd like to see Pops attend next years event and show our little southpaw who's his daddy.

That's enough for me, gotta leave room for other folks to add their two cents.

Some cents

*I didn’t attempt the speed pitch, so my crowning as speed pitch king will have to wait another year.

*I bought a Corey Patterson game used autographed spring training jersey. It was very cheap.

*obc tried to convince me to get a Bronson Arroyo CD signed, and I declined.

*I also met Chuck Harmon, who couldn’t have been nicer. One of those awe-inspiring experiences, and I spent like 10 seconds with the guy.

*We briefly met up with Doug from RML and a couple of the guys from OMGReds. Great guys.

*obc will tell you that he saw Nick Lachey sitting next to Micah Owings when he was signing. He’s wrong.

*Also at Chuck Harmon’s table was Leo Cardenas and Tommy Helms. One of these people was friendly. One was not.

All in all, a pretty fantastic afternoon. I’m jacked up on Reds baseball right now, and I can’t wait to go next year.

my guess is Rosales

What jersey did Slyde buy?

Any Bubba Crosby jerseys left this year?

Your guess is correct

And there were no Bubba jerseys this year. Although, the OMGReds guys tried to haggle with the old guy running the booth for three Sam LeCure jerseys (one of each color, and their entire stock). He had none of it and the boys went home empty-handed.

I bought an EdE jersey

I wanted to buy a Wladdy jersey, but they were $75 and had the #64 on them, not his current #28. EdE’s unsigned practice jersey was cheaper and more slimming.

Definitely a good argument.

I figured you'd want somthing Coutlangus used in action.

I think you'd get diseases from that.

I refuse to throw hard on the speed pitch thingies

I likw to feel my fingers. That said, I top out at 70-75 mph so pretty much anyone can beat me. :)

Yeah, I can win it

but doing so is kind of like winning a spelling bee in Alabama. No one really gives a shit.

I'll take you on next year at Red'sfest...if I'm still alive that is.

Then we’ll see who’s got the speed…

Classy Cardinals Reprise!

I hope to construct a music video montage of classy St. Louis Cardinal moments, perhaps setting it to Mariah Carey's "Hero."

Please take a moment to find the classiest incidents in recent Cardinal history, and link to an article covering the event, or video or pictures if you can find them. And if you just have a ridiculous photo of a recent Cardinal, please post a link here to the highest resolution image you can find.

I think we can all learn from such a classy organization. Let's give it a try.
