he is going to move over and broadcast 100 games on TV. The good news is he won't be paired with his father, the bad news is well we have to listen to him 100 times a year on TV.

The Reds are now searching for a radio man to do 40 games a year with sMarty.

From Ceser:Thom is the primary Grande replacement. Jim Kelch joins the team doing mostly radio, but also selected TV games (probably the main backup for when Thom does stuff for Fox) From Slyde: the Reds hired Paul Keels to fill in for tHom.

Here's text from the release

CINCINNATI – Cincinnati Reds Chief Operating Officer Phil Castellini today announced that Thom Brennaman has replaced George Grande as the club’s primary play-by-play announcer on games televised by FOX Sports Ohio and that longtime broadcaster Jim Kelch has joined the club’s broadcast teams for the 2010 season.

“Thom clearly is one of the most versatile announcers in sports today. We’re happy he’ll have a more significant role in our TV broadcasts this season,” Castellini said. “In Jim’s time with us the last couple of years, we thought he blended well with our radio and television teams. He’s broadcast baseball for 26 years and spent the last 10 watching our minor leaguers come up through the system. Our fans will benefit from that experience.”

For most of the broadcasts on the FOX Sports Ohio schedule, Brennaman will team with color analysts Chris Welsh or Jeff Brantley, but he also will work a handful of games on radio alongside his father, Hall of Famer Marty Brennaman.

Brantley will continue his work with both radio and FOX Sports Ohio broadcasts. Kelch primarily will work radio but also will fill in for selected televised games.

Great news for Kelch

Here’s hoping he has continued sucksess keeping sMarty on track.
Bad new for the TV medium. almost every TV announcer talks too much, as if silence is the enemy of reason. I like to watch baseball on TV but I really don’t need all the useless patter or the ‘supplied’ emotional reaction of the announcers(unless they’re truly excited about a truly spectacular play). Unfortunately tHom, as we know, cannot shut up for more tha 6 – 8 seconds at a time…his endless blabbering will drive me to turn on the radio to get salient information re: the games…except then I may have to listen to CowPatty bleat on…Jesus..this makes me like Grande more than ever,(he should had the complete lobe job)…oh well good for Kelch.

BTW I too liked Murker..he was really innocuous and kind of funny as well as well informed.

I'm probably one of the few

who doesn’t really mind listening to Thom. Grande was just flat out annoying to me, I couldn’t stand listening to the “going back – looking up – its gonna be – gooooonnnne/off the wall” thing 10 times a game. Thom, while annoying in his own way, at least mixed it up. He constantly man loves on people or brings up really dumb things to talk about, but it has always been easier for me to laugh the stupid things he says compared to the things that annoyed me about grande. I was personally hoping Kelch would just replace Grande, but I can live with this set-up I guess.

I have wondered why more announcers don’t often just shut up for a while also, which is something that I’ve always enjoyed about the Giants announcers.

Well there's no way that tHom was going to be fired

It is too bad that he and Brantley weren’t paired on TV so that those of us that don’t care for either of them could have just listened to the Radio broadcast…although I seriously would rather listen to BK and Slyde to a ‘Pirate Radio’ call of the game any day.

Now see...

I’ve got no problem with tHom; he seems to know the game well, doesn’t seem to fear his dad anymore, and seems to relay the info well. Yea, he talks a bit too much, but I think that comes from doing radio. Of course, I also liked Grande (except when he was fawning over the Cards).

However, I will continue to change the station any time I hear Cowboy’s voice.

This is my view

I think tHom and Welsh are as good a tv tandem as any I’ve seen from other Fox Sports teams.

tHom’s not as good as Dan Schulman or John Miller, but he’s pretty good and all his nattering is worth it just to hear the few times a game when his silly girlish laugh gets the better of him.

People, please. We're all frightened and horny, but we can't let some killer dolphins keep us from living and scoring

THIS

I tire of tHom’s voice after about a week, but when he’s with Chris, he comes off as much more intelligent than anybody but Kelch. The problem is that when he’s with Brantley, they are insufferable. I think tHom plays to the competition.

Definitely a good argument.

Agreed

Keep Thom with Welsh as much as possible and it’ll be fine…..

…. Oh, and hope Tim Tebow doesn’t decide to play baseball for the Arizona Diamondbacks. THom might spontaneously combust if that happened.

I predict

We’ll see a lot more of tHom/Chris on TV and sMarty/Cowboy on the radio.

FS Ohio announces that Paul Keels will be the secondary play-by-play guy for the TV games

and he’ll cover the games not covered by tHom. (linky)

Definitely a good argument.

I saw that and get really excited. Keels is awesome, OSU fans and old-school UC and

Michigan fans should know this as well. The dude has a great voice and calls games really even. One of the best in the college ranks, FWIW.
