Reds Nation Trip to Cooperstown
January 6th. The Epiphany, the day the Baseball Writers of America may or may not have an epiphany and do the right thing.
What am I talking about? The possible induction of the greatest shortstop in Reds history (sorry, Davey, you're number two, we love you!) into the National Baseball Hall of Fame. And we're gonna be there.
Hall of Fame weekend starts July 23, 2010. I'm organizing a group trip asap, meaning we stay in same hotel, hang out, etc. We're gonna have to stay outside of Cooperstown, of course, because they have limited accommodations and I'm sure they're already booked, but I'll try to get as close as possible. I want to organize vans to take us up there and am going to need drivers. Details will be worked out later, of course, but hotel reservations will need to be made soon after Jan 6 if things go our way.
Read about HOF weekend here.
Of course, we may not get the chance this year. It will certainly be close. If not, we'll have to postpone and do this every year until we get justice.
So - who's in? I need to gage interest so I can plan accordingly.

Where are you planning to stay?
I’ve been meaning to check out Cooperstown, but it’s kind of in the middle of nowhere. There’s only one hotel, I think, and it’s kind of expensive. And, as you say, probably sold out.
Albany is an hour and a half away, and there are a lot of hotels there, including some very low-cost ones.
Syracuse is two hours away, and Binghamton an hour and a half. They probably make more sense if you’re coming from Ohio. Syracuse is on the Thruway, Binghamton is on the new Rte. 86 (formerly Rte. 17). Rte. 86 is much more scenic.

oh, and...
…according to the baseball fans in Syracuse, you can expect Pete Rose to hit on you while you’re there!

there are actually more hotels in the area than i thought
i’ll check them out in the coming days after christmas. oneonta seems to have a bunch, and it’s only what, 40mi away?
if he doesn’t make it, well, trip postponed. i certainly have enough trips planned this july that i could use a free weekend. i could use that free weekend to write nasty letters to the baseball writers about how idiotic it is that they think there’s a difference between a “first ballot” hall of famer and one they vote in later despite the fact the stats haven’t changed.
don't you have a job or schooling of some sort?

yeah
he “isn’t a first ballot hall of famer”, because his stats will magically look better in 2012…

Great idea
I’m game— but I think some snobby “first ballot” thoughts will put off our trip

I hate to pee on everyone's Rice Kripies, but Larkin's not getting in this year.
I hope he does, but it won’t be in 2010, unfortunately.
