Heroes of the Zeros: First Base
The debate on who is the All Decade 1B for the aught Reds is an interesting one. First base was a fairly stable position for the Reds during the 2000s, with 3 players accounting for 75% of the starts at the position during the decade. The six players listed below are the players on the Reds during the aughts who played more than 30 games and played 1B more than any other position while with the Reds. The ballot is available after the jump and you are only voting for the starting player.

three of my favorite players ...
the mayor, hatty, and votto ….
votto is loved by the fans and will be for a long time, but i have to go with casey because of his tenure and leadership

also, the reason i went with the mayor is that he can have this decade … let’s hope that votto has the next all to himself

You guys are awfully sentimental today
It’s just that time of year, I guess

Maybe they've been around each other long enough for their cycles to start lining up.

Votto, because he's so freaking awesome.
It was really close between him and Casey, because Casey played so much longer, but I really think that Votto has been one of the best things about the entire team in this decade, so I gave him the edge.
Ditto on what joshuar said: love our first base this decade – Casey, Hatteberg, Votto, all of whom are pretty decent hitters, and stand-up guys on top of that.
IAN! I'm on traain!
man that was tough
Votto is the slightly better hitter, but Casey was here longer and played better defense. so close but i had to go with votto because of my man crush

Votto
is the best player here. But, I had to vote for Casey since it is an all decade vote. I’m curious what position Aurillia is going to be listed on.
Aurilia played 45 or more games at 4 different positions with the Reds
but he didn’t play more than 80 anywhere. He actually played the fewest games at 1B of the 4 that he played.

Joey Votto is 1/4 Cherokee
It has nothing to do with his heritage, the man ate a fucking Jeep.

i looked him up
he only existed for like 14 games then disappeared into the abyss
"strikeouts are a lot sexier than groundouts"
finally a list that doesn't suck.

It's not that much better than the catcher list
Larue and Casey more or less cancel each other out for the first half of the decade. Casey’s got an edge in WAR but also has more PAs. Ross did a little better than Hatteberg covering a few of the following years. The only real edge is with Votto for the last two years of the decade.
they were awesome ... where have you been

one year
actually, just a half of a year, before he went to Detroit and then retired
