Dodged a bullet there. Except Jocko may go into “panic mode” now and grab some other worthless aging veteran who will steal innings from a more deserving player.

Absolutely

On the other hand we may end up with PJ who will be lucky to hit his weight…he may hit a couple doubles and have a .270 OBP but this team is so in need of offense that it cannot afford to have a milktoast hitter at SS.

There is an overriding misconception that Clutch is an overriding misconception.

I'm fibe with having a slap-hitting SS like Janish if he's hitting 8th.

But that’s not going to happen. Walt will sign another SS who will give the Reds exactly the same thing that Janish provides. But he’ll be older and get paid more money. And waste another roster spot.

by Brian B on Dec 13, 2009 2:38 PM EST via mobile up reply actions

Yep that is truthiness

Except
I’m not so fine with a .209 average and a so so OBP guy at SS cause Dudsy will bat him second..and as I said this team is hurting big time for offense.

but will Counsel play any better than Jahinish

and will he play so much better than Janish that he is worth the $1-2M contract he will get.

Janish starter - Counsell bench

Counsell plays plus defense at 3 positions, hits LH and hits well. He also is a pretty good PH.

orlando cabrera

will fall in our lap if Walt will make it happen. There just aren’t any other openings for PT like the Reds’, and he knows it. It’ll be a waiting game (like with Bobby Abreu last year), but I think we’ll have the chance to get him on the cheap, short term, in January.

Of course, that assumes we have an inkling of synapse connection in the front office, which has obviously (Tvirus) been sorely (Lincoln) lacking (dustbag.)

Set the gearshift to the high gear of your soul.

if we can get him cheap

then I’d go for it, but I doubt we do, someone will be willing to give him more years/money than he’s probably worth. I’ve very skeptical of him given his age and I will continue to view him as overrated, but he would be a decent upgrade at something like 3 mil.

I hope Walt was init just to drive the price up.

I doubt it though, since he will probably offer something in that neighborhood to Jamey Carroll.

by Brian B on Dec 14, 2009 9:09 PM EST via mobile up reply actions

no he won't

Walt is a genius and will not let Dusty and Bob trick him into making bad decisions.
