New Rotowire reports: Todd Frazier & Enerio Del Rosario
Rotowire (subscription):
Todd Frazier (2B) CIN - Dec 01
http://www.rotowire.com/baseball/player.htm?id=9848
Frazier will likely open up 2010 as the starting left fielder for Triple-A Louisville, the Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: This is a pretty good indication that Frazier's work at second base in Instructional League play didn't go all that well. Keep in mind that Frazier doesn't yet have to be protected on the 40-man roster, and that
there are a slew of left field candidates. He'll probably spend most if not all of his summer in Louisville while the Reds work on finding him a permanent position.
Enerio Del Rosario (P) CIN - Dec 01
http://www.rotowire.com/baseball/player.htm?id=10456
Del Rosario, who was recently added to the Reds' 40-man roster, is pitching well in the Dominican Winter League, posting a 2.37 ERA in 19 innings of relief work.
ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Del Rosario throws hard but doesn't get the strikeouts you'd think would come with that. In 80.1 innings of relief, mostly split between High-A Sarasota and Triple-A Louisville, he had a combined 1.68 ERA and 54:12 K:BB, allowing just three homers on the year. Not surprisingly, he was an extreme ground ball pitcher, posting a 3.23 G/F rate.

I'm calling it right now
Del Rosario wins a spot on the roster out of ST this year
If I hear the word 'perky' again, I'll puke
Hold your horses
Too many pitchers who are guaranteed money will make the roster. I’d say late May at the earliest, with injury help.

yeah, pitchers just added to the 40-man tend not to work out
its more fun when you have to add them to the 40 man to make the team, like Johnny Cueto and Josias Manzanillo

I'd be afraid to throw strikes if my testicles were reputured by a line drive.

There was nothing fun about Josias Manzanillo.
Except those steroids and a pretty smile.

Seems like he could displace Fisher if they were to carry 8
or Lincoln on the off-chance he’s released. Putting aside Bray’s possible return in May, the competition for the last spot would seem to come down to Viola, Fisher and a couple minor leaguers, including Del Rosario. If Owings wins his rotation spot back that could free up an additional spot, though maybe Maloney or Wood could be considered as longman-swingman?
They’d have to trade Cordero or Rhodes or get rid of Lincoln to free up any more spots and they might be loath to cut bait on his contract if he’s healthy.
Here’s how it stacks up as of December 2009:
Cordero
Masset
Rhodes
Burton
DRH
Owings
Fisher
Lincoln
Yeah, those guys and the Cincinnati Reds. They're a terrible football team. / Because they're a baseball team? / Exactly. You know who's the worst football team? The Philadelphia Flyers. - Best Show

Frazier
Does this go back to the Reds.com interview with Terry Reynolds? That’s the only thing I could find in the Enquirer. It was Reynolds opinion of where Frazier would start the year if he were GM. I don’t recall reading anything (or seeing anything between the lines) to indicate that Frazier couldn’t handle 2B. It seemed to me that Frazier was on top of Reynolds list and LF was his fastest track to the majors.
Phillips has 2 more years with the Reds. It would make sense to start Valaika there and Frazier at 3B or LF with Francisco at the other spot.
It wouldn't surprise me if Reynolds has Frazier atop his list
there were rumors at one time that Baseball America’s top 10 list is essentially handed down from the teams, which would explain Frazier leapfrogging Alonso.
Definitely a good argument.
Its not quite that bad
But the guys do spend a lot of time talking to people within the organization, so the list is certainly fueled a lot by what the organization wants you to think about the player. Of course as a guy is around longer you get reports on him from other sources as well.
With that said, the reports I got on Frazier at 2B and from what I saw with my own eyes…. he is at least a year away defensively there. He just looked very uncomfortable there with his feet. I think in time he could be adequate there, but right now he should be considered a project for 2B rather than a prospect.
what a surprise that he would be uncomfortable at a position
since they haven’t let him play just one position since he’s been with the team. Strange that he’s the #1 prospect in the system when he doesn’t even have a clear position to play.
Definitely a good argument.
Rotowire also reporting that Buster Olney is reporting that rival executives are reporting that the Reds would rather trade Harang than Arroyo
And now I’m reporting it.
It doesn’t surprise me though.
Definitely a good argument.

If El Nino Destructor makes the team next year (in LF, likely), then Frazier will probably play 3B in Louisville.
Definitely a good argument.
why not the other way around?
why is Francisco the first name at 3B, bumping Frazier to LF? shouldnt it be t’other way round?
by Charlie Scrabbles on Dec 2, 2009 4:32 PM EST up reply actions
I think they feel like Francisco is more ready/more needed
And they said that if Francisco makes the team, it will be as a LF since Rolen is at 3B. I would guess then that Frazier moves to 3B so that they are a back up plan in place if they (please) don’t sign Rolen.
Definitely a good argument.
That's not a bad deal for Frazier..I mean if he gets a good part of the uear at one position and plays daily.
I am not for rushing this guy although I think he’ll be ready by AS break 2010.
As to Scrabbles question re: Frazier in LF…maybe the thought is that if Francisco can show his merit at 3b and hit for power then they’ll start grooming Todd for LF 0r maybe one or the other is expendable if the right trade comes along…Walt is reasonable smart about player movement and trades…so far anyway
