AFL Rising Stars Game Thread

If you are sitting all alone at home and are bored tonight, flip your TV on to MLB Network at 8pm. The Arizona Fall League wraps up with their Rising Stars game. It's a chance to see some young players who could end up being stars in the big leagues in the very near future.
From a Reds perspective, there should be four farmhands getting playing time tonight. Chris Heisey is batting 4th and playing LF for the home AFL West team. Batting right behind him is 1B Yonder Alonso. Zack Cozart is on the bench for the AFL West team and Mike Leake will be in the bullpen. Since it is a showcase game, I expect we'll see all of them play.
If you can't watch the game on TV, you can follow along with Gameday. The game is in Surprise, so if I'm not mistaken, there will be Pitch FX for your viewing pleasure.

cool
They’ve got photos and everything at Gameday now.
Former Yankee untouchable Jose Tabata up first. (Is his wife in jail or what?)
All Things Bubba: Because how can you not love a baseball player named Bubba?
But guys the BearCats are on....
Say I have reached a new height of boredom. I watched the enite second half of the OSU – Mich. men’s soccer game…OSU 1 – MU – nil
Go BearCats
I gave up working out. My philosophy: No pain... no pain. ...
Mads.
Cosart didnt get the start?
I haven’t even seen a reds pitcher besides that tall dude Logan Ondrusek in a week it seems.
AFL West FtehW W00t.
Snyder is taking froever on Minor
Anyone else watching this?
I know I’m watching the Jackets game and the Wings and Pens as well. Gameday just isnt cutting it.
I would love to watch this game
But I don’t get the MLB Network. It’s Gameday for me.

I meant the baseball game

I think the feed is free on mlb.com
I didnt have to sign in for it
I love that not even he knew that he scored and he continued to try to put it in - Evilducks
wow
It’s actually running pretty well, too.
Just as I always suspected: the bottleneck is on MLB’s end, not mine. It always runs great when no one else is watching.

Amazon
is getting fresh with me.
They have that new “payphrase” thing, where you can type in a phrase to pay at online stores. Yesterday their suggested payphrase for me was “Bubbafan’s secret pleasure.” Today, it’s “Bubbafan’s slight ability.”
I wonder if they’re making suggestions like that intentionally, so people get annoyed enough to sign up and choose their own phrase.

well
This is getting ugly fast.
All Things Bubba: Because how can you not love a baseball player named Bubba?
things could hardly get worse
For young Minor. His own throwing error allows another run to score.

7 catches for 108 yards, and the first quarter isn't even over yet!
wow
Made from 100% Recycled Awesome,
Alonso was caught trying to reach 2nd
I wouldn’t say he was stretching, cuz it really should have been a double. He’s not a fast man.
Yeah, those guys and the Cincinnati Reds. They're a terrible football team. / Because they're a baseball team? / Exactly. You know who's the worst football team? The Philadelphia Flyers. - Best Show

Your 2010 Reds LFer?
I’m getting cautiously excited about seeing Heisey and Alonso in the same big league lineup.

I'm excited about him
I just can’t decide if I’m excited enough to forgo bringing back Gomes
Definitely a good argument.
Id bring back gomes just to give Heisey a little time in AAA
and hope gomes can become trade bait
I love that not even he knew that he scored and he continued to try to put it in - Evilducks
yeah
but that outfield is crowded. I think I’d still bring back Gomes, but Heisey definitely makes it a lot harder question.
Definitely a good argument.
true
but I think they have just enough room for gomes right? the problem arises when you want to call someone up.
I love that not even he knew that he scored and he continued to try to put it in - Evilducks
definitely
there is some risk of spending money on Gomes and having him regress to 2008 levels. Probably won’t be able to unload him then.
Definitely a good argument.
They might not have a choice
The Reds may not have the financial flexibility for it to make sense, even if they have they can scrape up the cash to pay him. On Gomes, I can’t figure out if he’s as bad in the OF and vs. righties as he sometimes seems.

I'd like to see him get a chance
Beats another Patterson or Taveras signing.
All Things Bubba: Because how can you not love a baseball player named Bubba?
I guess Alonso really didn't hit that well in the AFL

Gots to go babysit
Updates later

Holy crap, Heisey has a story that I'm certain I'll be sick of hearing about
when he’s hitting .300 and batting 2nd for the Reds next season.
Definitely a good argument.
went to 6 tryouts before getting drafted
thought he was just going to be a teacher, but his buddy convinced him to go to a tryout. It’s a good story, but I’m sure I’ll be sick of hearing tHom tell it by May.
Definitely a good argument.
thanks
I got tired of the announcers and put the game on mute.
All Things Bubba: Because how can you not love a baseball player named Bubba?
Oh, so 4 games isn't enough to get excited but 15 is?
I’m thinking he might make a great, cheap platoon partner with Dickerson in LF if they cant resign Gomes
I'mma let you finish, but....

don't want him platooned
He’d hardly get to play. He needs to play every day.
All Things Bubba: Because how can you not love a baseball player named Bubba?
I'm still wondering if we'll see cozart
I’m skeptical since he wasn’t announced during the pre-game
I love that not even he knew that he scored and he continued to try to put it in - Evilducks
I missed the pregame
maybe he’s nursing something. He only has 2 AB in November.
Definitely a good argument.
gameday
lists him as a bench player tonight.
All Things Bubba: Because how can you not love a baseball player named Bubba?
they lined up all the players and announced each of them
ending with the starting lineups, cozart wasn’t out there then. I still holding out hope.
I love that not even he knew that he scored and he continued to try to put it in - Evilducks
I'm gonna scream
if I hear “what a gift” one more time.
All Things Bubba: Because how can you not love a baseball player named Bubba?
I haven't been paying attention...who says that?
and it sure looks like the OF are misreading the ball a lot
Definitely a good argument.
I think it's Tony Clark
Who was Bubba’s predecessor in the hearts of many a Yankee fan. But he’s an annoying announcer. Everything’s a gift. Switch-hitting. Running quickly to first base. Chasing down a fly ball (even if you don’t catch it). Hitting a soft single off Mike Leake.
All Things Bubba: Because how can you not love a baseball player named Bubba?
BTW, for those that are into this stuff
Mike Leake is where high stirrups
Definitely a good argument.
Trent must be thrilled
All Things Bubba: Because how can you not love a baseball player named Bubba?
I'm liking this pick more and more
looks like we got something
I love that not even he knew that he scored and he continued to try to put it in - Evilducks
The Rockies
cut Josh Fogg loose.
All Things Bubba: Because how can you not love a baseball player named Bubba?
howdy
Still no sign of Zack Cozart…

Does Yonder's swing look really long?

The world is going to stop
because a Yankee is pitching to a Red Sock. Even in the Fall League???!!!!!!!!
Rogers gave a great effort and did much better than i thought he would
but good lord what a punch that was.
fedor is the baddest man on the planet.
Made from 100% Recycled Awesome,
damn this uconn team is stubborn

good guys win
I can’t believe they came back.
Alonso and Heisey did good.
Three guys left on the bench. One was Cozart.
All Things Bubba: Because how can you not love a baseball player named Bubba?
No kidding
I watched the first inning last night and parts of the rest this morning. Quite the comeback. And man, did Alonso and Heisey have some nice lookin’ swings.
