Farmers Only: Winter League Update and some notes
Many of you thought the Arizona Fall League ended with the "Rising Stars" game last weekend, but it actually goes until the end of next week, and our boys in 'zona have just kept on representin'. This list isn't exhaustive, I've only put up stats, through yesterday, of the players of interest playing in fall/winter leagues. (If you really want to know how Lew Ford is doing in Venezuela you can look it up)

- Zack Cozart hasn't been in a game since last week and isn't listed on the Peoria Saguaros roster anymore. I can't tell if he's injured or just decided he wanted to go home.
- Todd Frazier starts play in the Puerto Rican League next week. I'm giddy.
- Please note the K/BB ratio for Francisco. I know it's only the DWL, but the kid is showing signs of being able to take a walk.
- I'm really intrigued by Del Rosario. He flew up through the system this season, and ended the year in AAA. His groundball to flyball ratio was 3.23 during the season and is 2.22 in the DWL. Sounds like a good fit for GABP.
- It's still a small sample size, but Chris Heisey keeps making a case for himself.
- Darnell McDonald is tearin' up Mexico too, but since he's not on the 40 man roster anymore I didn't feel compelled to include him. Katie Couric is happy about this.

I know somewhere in Mexico, Rosales is sprinting to 1st via bb right now.
And that is frickin hilarious.
Anybody know what Mexican League team Adam is playing for?

If it's not the Speedy Gonzalezes, I'm gonna be REALLY disappointed.

You mean sprinting back to the dugout after flying out?
‘cause that’s what this means: 213/303/317
Lots and lots of running back to dugout, shaking his head and muttering
That's not fair, you know how many times he tried to win one for the Gipper?
That’s what he’s saying when he’s muttering. Anyway, 18 bb and 2 hr in Mexico is a tantalizing line, if you’re into the Rosales show.
Baseball America
had this to say about High-Z:
Reds outfielder Chris Heisey has gone from a 17th-round pick in 2006 to knocking on the big league door. He’s played all three outfield spots for the Peoria Saguaros and hit .320/.400/.667 with five home runs in 85 plate appearances.
"I think he’s just gaining confidence and I think he believes he’s a major league player," said Saguaros manager David Bell, who also managed Heisey this year at Double-A Carolina. "I think he’s going to create that opportunity for himself.
"He can do so many things—he’s such a well-rounded player. There’s not anything that he can’t do, and he does a lot of things very well. I think this league has been good for him. It’s given him a little more time to just gain that confidence."
Heisey, 24, is also one of the smartest baserunners in the minors. He doesn’t have blazing speed, but he was successful on 21 of 24 stolen base attempts during the regular season, and he’s swiped five more in seven attempts in the AFL.
"He gets out a little on his front side, but he has such good hands, especially on the inner half," said one scout. "He’s got solid-average tools across the board. I don’t see any major weaknesses and or any great pluses. For me, he might be a fourth outfielder who plays as an occasional starter. He’s really surprised me."
And from the transaction report:
Cincinnati Reds
Released: RHP Leonardo Astorga, RHP Chris Kelly, RHP Ramon Rodriguez, LHP Bryan Gardner, LHP Shea Snowden, C Petr Cech, C Humberto Sosa, C Justin Tordi, 3B Jason Louwsma, OF Sergio Guerrero, OF Kel Jones, OF Tyler Stovall
Granted free agency: 1B Kevin Barker, 2B Danny Richar
Outrighted to Triple-A and removed from 40-man: C Corky Miller, 1B Kevin Barker, 2B Danny Richar, OF Darnell McDonald
I’m crushed. Shea Snowdon had such a romantic hero type name.
Also on the list: Mike Gosling was granted free agency.

I'm still surprised they chose to keep thompson instead of ram-rod
I love that not even he knew that he scored and he continued to try to put it in - Evilducks
oh right...

a healthy thompson has more upside than a healthy ram-ram

key word healthy
I don’t hate it, just surprised.

The Reds really don't have a need for Ram-ram
Going into 2005, 2006, or even 2007 a pitcher of his caliber would have strongly been in the mix to make the rotation, but the Reds have fortunately reached a point where they don’t need 27 or 28 year olds with nice minor league numbers, but only a few months of big league experience, to be a strong presence in the race for the rotation.

I didnt realize he was that old
and i didnt realize how young thompson still is, I withdraw my surprise.

also i just noticed an alarming change in Ramirez's stats
in 2008 in 145 innings in AA and AAA he had a k/9 of 9.
In 2009 in 127 AAA innings he had a K/9 of 5.5.
That is an astounding change.

Quick take on the players released
Astorga had it coming. Kelly, Tordi, and Louwsma were for the most part minor league roster filler. I’m not sure if Guerrero played at all this year.
The surprises that jump out are Sosa, who had a decent year in Dayton, Stovall, who was one of the more highly regarded outfield prospects for the Reds from the ’08 draft (when drafted, he was around the same level as Dave Sappelt, who could see AA next year), and recent draftees. Snowden was a top 10 pick, and Gardner was an ’09 pick (who was just awful, but still). Ram-Rod had a few good games in the GCL, and we miss out on two awesome names in Petr Cech and RR Favorite Keltavious Jones.

good riddance.

I miss baseball already
And I want to whack zombies with a baseball bat, like in that Left 4 Dead 2 commercial. (Is there really a whole zombie infested ballpark in that game?)

You're getting violent and foul-mouthed recently

Personally I love it when a girtl talks dirty.
Especially at at a baseball game.
"Success is getting up one more time than you fall down, then walking away saying "Fuck it".
Hate to break it to you guys...
But Todd Frazier hurt his knee and is not playing winter ball at all…
Was just with him this past weekend at a club and he informed me of his decision to stay home and rest his knee up so he can go into spring training at 100% and not risk further injury.
Doesn’t really matter if he plays or not, he is the future of the Reds along with Votto and Bruce. That trio of hitters is the key to us posting an above .500 year. Let’s hope he gets the call sooner rather than later because I know that a kid like Todd produces no matter what level he plays at. The kid is a winner.
If it didn't involve surgery
it sounds like it’s probably one of those things that every player is dealing with at the end of the season, but maybe a little more painful since he didn’t play winter ball. I wouldn’t guess that it’s anything to worry about.
Definitely a good argument.
Cozart
left the game against Mesa on November 2nd after only two plate appearances according to FirstInning.com. That sounds like an injury.
