All Things Bubba: Because how can you not love a baseball player named Bubba?
Molina is AJ's personal catcher
He starts whenever AJ does.
All Things Bubba: Because how can you not love a baseball player named Bubba?
I'm starting to wonder if the problem is Jorgie
I love the guy, and the scouting report on him used to be that he was good at establishing a rapport with pitchers, but lately, well, that hasn’t been the case. Randy Johnson had a personal catcher (and it came back to bite us in the postseason). That year, Posada said he just didn’t know RJ, and pointed to Mussina as a guy he’d known a long time and got on well with. Then the next year, Mussina got a personal catcher, and it wasn’t Posada. Now it’s AJ.
So far as I know, none of these players has actually asked for a personal catcher. It’s just the pitchers pitch so much better with the backup, that it’s hard not to pair them up permanently.
All Things Bubba: Because how can you not love a baseball player named Bubba?
I suspect it's driven more by personality than performance
There’s too much noise in a small sample size consisting of a handful of starts from one season. Still, there was an OPS spread of over 100 points in comparing when Molina and Posada caught Burnett.
They'll probably switch Molina out
After a couple of at-bats, and pinch-hit Posada.

I get that not everyone uses Word
But PDFs are pretty standard, I thought.
"What the hell are spanks????"
PDFs may be standard
But everyone hates them. They can open them, but they hate them.
And even if you use Word…if you have an older version, you may not be able to open newer Word documents. The file conversions on Word can be really screwy.
All Things Bubba: Because how can you not love a baseball player named Bubba?
No doubt
I’m not the biggest fan of either to be honest. That’s why I use Corel WordPerfect, so everyone can open my documents.

I use Notepad for everything.

But it’s dying. Like Netscape, it’s fading away.
All Things Bubba: Because how can you not love a baseball player named Bubba?
Kidding of course
I hated dealing with WordPerfect on the rare occasion that I had to.
"What the hell are spanks????"
I used to hate it
Because it was so bass-ackward compared to normal software. The function keys never did what you expected them to.
But I’ve really gotten to like it. (Plus they’ve fixed a lot of the weirdness.)

I've never run into that.
I always send .docs. I think pretty much anyone can open a microsoft word document
IAN! I'm on traain!
Different world
Microsoft Office is standard for any legal employer. Might not be the case in all industries.
Really?
I remember when law offices were the bastion of WordPerfect.
All Things Bubba: Because how can you not love a baseball player named Bubba?
I've heard that too, but it's kind of amazing how fast everything's switched.
I worked for a state government this summer where the computers were laughably obsolete, and they all ran microsoft word rather than word perfect. I’ve seen one document in word perfect since I came to law school.
IAN! I'm on traain!
My engineering office started the conversion
years ago, but only recently removed WordPerfect from the computers and forced everyone to use Word. We’re going to be forced to use Outlook soon, too. Ugh.
Kind of a pain, because it sometimes takes 10 years or more to get a project out. Now we’re dealing with occasional WordPerfect documents we can no longer open. Plus, most of us don’t use word processing software very often, so learning the new software is a hell of a learning curve. Especially The Ribbon.
I still use WordPerfect at home, though I have Office as well.

This is mainly because IE

For years, firefox had tabbed browsing and IE did not. This was a huge difference.

With Grande gone, it's hard to say
I still like Jon Miller. I went out to the store in the second inning and heard him on the radio. Great voice and tells the game well.
I think people diss him
because they hate Joe Morgan. But Miller is good — especially on the radio. One thing he does that I really like: he describes the play slower than it happened, so he can add details to help you see it. Not much slower, but he doesn’t rush to blurt out the play just to do it at realtime speed.
Miller, Krukow, Kuiper, and the other guy
are all really good with the Giants.
Dave Fleming, that’s his name.
The A’s announcers suck.

Bernie Williams
was really sad to see by the end. He was letting balls drop in in front of him that even a bad outfielder would get easily. I think it was especially bad because Bernie’s never had good instincts. He doesn’t read the ball off the bat; his defense was due to raw speed. Once he lost that, he was lost.
All Things Bubba: Because how can you not love a baseball player named Bubba?
He was classy-- it's tough to see them when they drop off like that

Especially since he refused to believe his skills were declining
The first time Torre put Bubba in as a LIDR, Bernie was crushed. Torre told him, “You can still go get it, but you can’t get it back in. This kid can throw.”
Then came the first time Torre pinch-ran Bubba for Bernie. That really shocked Bernie. He was always known for his speed. He just couldn’t believe it.
Even after the Yankees cut him…Bernie kept hoping they would change their minds and bring him back. He wouldn’t retire, and he wouldn’t sign with another team. His own mother said she was praying he would accept reality.
Damon, now…I think he’s more realistic. He knows he’s declining. The only thing is, in the heat of the moment, he sometimes forgets how bad his arm is, and how good Melky’s is. He takes the ball when he really should let Melky get it, just because Melky has a cannon.
All Things Bubba: Because how can you not love a baseball player named Bubba?
The Phils really crowd the plate
The Yanks probably oughta move them back.
On the other hand, I don’t know that Howard would even notice if a pitch hit him. Utley would take one between the eyes for the team— and he can turn on some of those purpose pitches, anyhow.

No way he can see the short hop. I don’t know what’s normally done with that play, but it seems like he should check with the home plate umpire.
Rollins helped sell that, didn't he?

Howard knew he didn't catch it
He went to second to try and get the DP. If he had caught it, he would have stepped on 1st to get Possada.
If you're not having fun, stop participating.
Girardi is weird
Why was the bunt on 0-2?
Yeah, those guys and the Cincinnati Reds. They're a terrible football team. / Because they're a baseball team? / Exactly. You know who's the worst football team? The Philadelphia Flyers. - Best Show

wasn't Girardi
Jeter does that on his own. I wish he wouldn’t, but he does.
All Things Bubba: Because how can you not love a baseball player named Bubba?
sure 'nough
Jeter says:
With two strikes, though, Jeter made the decision to attempt another bunt. "That was me," he said. "I was stupid."
He does that. Being who he is, he is allowed to decide to bunt when he wants to. It’s been that way for years, since Torre.
But he makes pretty lousy decisions. He bunts in situations that just leave you scratching your head. Girardi should tell him not to bunt unless he gets the signal. But I guess you can’t do that to The Captain.
All Things Bubba: Because how can you not love a baseball player named Bubba?
i guess there is something to be said for bunting when it isnt expected
but yeah, he definitely isnt a first-ballot HOFer after that display.

Not sure about Girardi
But I think Torre let everyone bunt when they wanted to. He would sometimes call for a bunt from the dugout, but players were also allowed to bunt on their own.
Most players would not bunt if they weren’t ordered to. They want to hit, not bunt. Some players whose game was speed, like Bubba, liked to bunt, and did it a lot and appropriately.
But Jeter…he likes to bunt, even though he’s a great hitter. And he does it at the weirdest times. You gotta wonder what he’s thinking…if he’s thinking.
All Things Bubba: Because how can you not love a baseball player named Bubba?
i know exactly what he's thinking

did anyone have Canadian folk singer Taylor Mitchell in the deathpool?

My favorite part of the CNN write-up
… is when she’s described as a “seasoned” naturalist.
No wonder the coyotes got hungry!

holy crap
I didn’t know full grown adults could be killed by coyotes.
All Things Bubba: Because how can you not love a baseball player named Bubba?
Guess they don't like folk music

according to Wikipedia
There are only two cases of coyotes killing people. This one, and another case involving a toddler.
This is the first time an adult has been killed by coyotes.
The Canadian press is reporting that she was attacked by two coyotes. Only two? That just doesn’t seem reasonable.
All Things Bubba: Because how can you not love a baseball player named Bubba?
yeah-- so bizarre it's suspicious

I don't doubt that
But it just seems really strange that only two coyotes could kill a healthy adult.
All Things Bubba: Because how can you not love a baseball player named Bubba?
According to Wikipedia
This is the first time a coyote has killed someone older than three.
There’s a ton of coyotes around here. They kill the occasional cat, but it would never occur to me to be afraid them. Except in the usual “wild animal might have rabies” kind of way.
All Things Bubba: Because how can you not love a baseball player named Bubba?
maybe it could, but it doesn't know that
coyotes, especially alone, are pretty wimpy. If you yell at them or throw a rock, they will run away. They are basically as aggressive as deer, when by themselves.
I’ve never come across a pack, and it wouldn’t surprise me at all if they are much much braver together.
Also, they aren’t that big. I’m much more afraid of a pit bull or rottweiler.
My defense plan would consist of making "beep beep" sounds
and holding up a sign making fun of the coyote. Theoretically it wouldn’t catch me.

oh sure, if you didn't have any arms
but that’s an unrealistic situation, don’t you think?
Wait…you didn’t just lose your arms in a combine accident, did you?
Definitely a good argument.

i don't follow the yanks,
but is his constant usage in the playoffs going to pose a problem if this goes 6 or 7?

yes
Mo needs careful handling. Can’t use him too much. But you can’t use him too little, either. If he sits too long, he loses his control.
All Things Bubba: Because how can you not love a baseball player named Bubba?
I don't blame them
They had to win tonight. Mo hadn’t pitched in a while, they’re off tomorrow, and the heart of Philly’s order was coming up.
Bringing Mo in then was much more important than starting Cherry over Swisher.
He's overmanaged, but
it’s the right call to bring your best to face 1-2-3 of the lineup in the 8th. Even if he can only get Howard and has nothing left, it’s a good move

34 pitches for Mo

yup
Don’t think he can go two innings next time, though.

Sam Borden
on the state of the Yankees bullpen:
Chad Gaudin: Unavailable yesterday (and possibly tonight) after being stretched out Tuesday.
Alfredo Aceves: Has allowed four hits and three earned runs in 2 1/3 postseason innings.
Brian Bruney: Didn’t play in first two rounds; allowed three hits and two runs in 1/3 of an inning last night.
Phil Coke: Two hits, one walk, two strikeouts in two total postseason innings.
Damaso Marte: Has not allowed hit or walk to last six batters faced.
Dave Robertston: 3 1/3 innings, three hits, one un-intentional walk this postseason.
Joba Chamberlain: Has given up hits to seven of 17 batters faced this postseason.
Phil Hughes: Has allowed five runs, nine hits and four walks in 4 2/3 playoff innings this year.
Mariano Rivera: Still the greatest of all time.
All Things Bubba: Because how can you not love a baseball player named Bubba?
no worries as long as y'all can get it to that Rivera fella
