Farmers Only Update: Introducing your 2010 Lynchburg Hillcats
The Fay is reporting that the Reds High-A affiliate will move from Sarasota to Lynchburg. The Hillcats play in the Carolina League, and won their league last year.
My take is that keeping track of the Carolina League and the Carolina Mudcats is going to get mighty confusing.

Hmm... About a three and a half hour drive to see Reds A prospects?
Maybe. BLee lives not too far from Lynchburg.
Oh, and something I never realized til I moved to Virginia: Lynchburg is right next to Blacksburg. Totally racist.

Note that
it’s about as far from you as the Mudcats are.
Then again, there’s not a Liberty University near the Mudcats…
Let me write out a formal proof for you.

Oh, and
it’s not all that close to Blacksburg.
Let me write out a formal proof for you.

Huh
I thought they were closer. Well, they are closer, as the crow flies.

Carolina league vs. Florida State League
Run environments are pretty different. 2007-2009 data for each league:
Florida State League: 4.2 R/G, average hitting line: 0.256/0.324/0.374, 1.6% of PA’s are HR’s.
That’s the lowest run environment of any minor or major league.
Carolina League: 4.6 R/G, average hitting line: 0.259/0.330/0.390, 1.8% of PA’s are HR’s.
That’s thoroughly average, and very comparable to the National League (NL’s slash line is better, but Carolina’s error rate is higher—2.8% vs. 1.6%—and they apparently balance out to 4.6 R/G).
From a pure stathead perspective, I think this is a good thing. I definitely prefer my minor league affiliates to have fairly average run environments. With the Florida State League, it was harder to figure out what the numbers mean for a given player.

That's good to hear.
Hopefully it will result in some better performances by the hitters there (Mesoraco and Soto come to mind) and less growing pains for the pitchers when they move up to AA.

I was wondering
what was going to happen to the Sarasota Reds. Seemed like it would be hard to stay in Sarasota with the Reds leaving for Arizona.

nuts
i was hoping it was Lynchburg, TN. then we could change the name of the team to the Big Whiskeys and the uniforms to leather vests.

I'm gonna pretend that it's the Lynchburg Hellcats

unreleated but i see Riverfront is now a mod
i’m starting to feel like being a mod here is like getting into the NBA playoffs. I feel like I’m the Denver Nuggets.
Congratulations to Riverfront, may your power be used for good, not evil. I’m still waiting for Madville’s promotion. He was voted for by the people.

It's more like the No Justins Club
And don’t be pointing at JinAZ. It’s the No Justins Club. We’re allowed to have one.

you could also get around that
by being the No justins Club

Riverfront isn't around much
I suspect he’s on staff because of his game summaries. Like Andromache, he’s providing content, not butt-kicking.

He's not a mod, just an author, so he can't ban anybody
He’s going to be doing a special series of posts this fall/winter starting next week and I didn’t want to have to promote everything from fanposts for him. This lets him post directly to the front page.
Definitely a good argument.

i assumed he was promoted so you wouldn't have to move his orginal content
i’m just giving you shit about all the mods/authors we have.

Alonso is off to a slow start in the Arizona Fall League
Alonso is off to a slow start in the Arizona Fall League, hitting .188/.243/.375
in 32 at-bats.
ROTOWIRE (subscription): Alonso has progressed slower than a few of his
contemporaries in the 2008 draft. He’ll likely spend the majority of 2010 at Triple-A
Louisville.
