The Machine and the return of the RR Book Club
Getting tired of fisticuffs breaking out at your Michael Chabon book club meetings? Maybe an online forum to discuss the best book about the best baseball team is your cup of tea!
As you know, Joe Posnanski of SI (and formerly of the Cincinnati Post) detailed the 1975 Reds in glorious fashion in The Machine, which was released to wide acclaim this fall. As we did for The Soul of Baseball, Red Reporter will post a series of FanShots FanPosts somethings this winter on chapters of the book to generate some discussion. I don't plan on posting anything until well after the World Series, but I wanted to throw this out there so that anyone that hasn't yet purchased the book can do so.

Someone will still win their very own signed copy of The Machine, but we have to wait until award season is over. So, I don’t know what to tell you except that I’ll try to have an update on scores by Thursday (tomorrow is shot because I’m driving to and from Ann Arbor, plus working).
Definitely a good argument.

Damn the World Series?
I’m just happy for the fanbases of those two franchises. Sweetness simply oozes out of them. Should be all sunshine and rainbows.

Not at this time of year
Baseball throws the calendar away
We have tampered with the forces of the universe and laughed in the face of mother nature, and now we’ve created something ugly and unholy. I’m not talking about climate change, global warming or frankenfoods, but something closer to my heart: the World Series schedule.Halloween is a scant three nights away, and the first pitch of game 1 of the World Series (7:30 p.m., Fox) has not yet been thrown. Who do the folks at Major League Baseball think they’re kidding? We’ve already had one postseason game called on account of snow.

So, um.
Is this one going to be postponed a bit?
Looks like it could be a long night.
Let me write out a formal proof for you.

Nah
Rain is predicted to end soon. It’s supposed to be cloudy but not raining (much) by game time.

Agreed
more double headers…no that won’t work
Ummm 154 game season…too much revenue loss
Reduce interleague play…might help
Start the season earlier…same problem in reverse
get rid of the extra play off games….I like that
reduce some of the play off games…great idea

What's wrong with doubleheaders?
And of course that article didn’t even mention getting rid of stupid extra off days in the playoffs…
Let me write out a formal proof for you.

I like doubleheaders but they are revenue losers for MLB teams.
