Playoffs Day 5, Thread 2

We filled one thread already and hardly mentioned that the Red Sox have been sent home. I think we can all agree this is a good thing. Jimmy Fallon and Drew Barrymore can suck it.

In case you forgot it's Yankees @ Twins at 7:00, Phillies @ Rockies at 10:00. My official predictions - Twins win 5-3, Phillies win 7-4.

The picture serves no purpose, it's just because I love him.

the nfl needs to adopt the college ovetime rules

Are there any differences other than that?

If you’re going to make it sudden death, you have to do something like what they do in the NHL, and make an overtime loss equivalent to a tie.

college ensures both teams get a chance

nfl is straight up sudden death. first team to score wins, and it counts as a regular win.

no score after the 1st overtime period means the game ends in a tie, and that is super weak

the whole point of OT

Was to eliminate ties. IIRC, before they adopted these OT rules, the game would end in a tie, unless it was a playoff game.

The Red Sox implosion was pretty terrible. A lot of closer fails thijs post season. I’m not a Red Sox fan, so I didn’t really mind, but I could see the devastation on the fans faces. That was a tough sweep. I think the Angels might win everything.

I didn't realize what a great season he had in 2006.

His OPS+ in his full seasons so far:

2005: 107
2006: 144
2007: 117
2008: 137
2009: 177

He led the AL in batting average, OBP, and slugging percentage this year. And started 107 games at catcher. Holy crap.

Let me write out a formal proof for you.

it was prolly posted but according to Olney with the LaRussa situation.

Cincinnati Reds: The Reds have already fired their pitching coach, and Phil Rogers reports that owner Bob Castellini is less than enamored with manager Dusty Baker. The connection here is clear: Reds GM Walt Jocketty worked with La Russa and Duncan in St. Louis, and if Castellini really is willing to dump Baker after two seasons, a leap to Cincinnati would be easy — and Castellini would pay.

(One little issue that would have to be dealt with is the question of whether third baseman Scott Rolen would want to play for La Russa; if not, the Reds presumably would trade Rolen, because his presence would not prevent them from pursuing La Russa. Rolen is under contract for just one more season, and La Russa would be a multiyear investment.)

We’ll see what happens. In the past, La Russa has not wanted to consider any of these questions until a season is completed, because he likes to focus entirely on the games at hand. For the 2009 Cardinals, there are no games left to play.

Now I don’t reallyknow who to root for. I’m torn between the Phillies and the Rockies, I just know I don’t want the Dodgers, so I guess whichever team goes up against Manny and company will be the one I root for.
