I voted Mesoraco
His upside at the catcher position can’t be ignored.
I think a lot of guys are interchangeable as far as the rankings are concerned at this point. The only guys who I don’t think are deserving to be on the list right now are Maloney and Ramirez.

Mesoraco
Tools – yes
Production – not exactly
Still, the upside is strong with him. He has the tools, he just needs to use them a little better. His bat is better than it looked in the stat line last year. It will be fine. Defense needs work though, but its something thats going to come with repetition and work.

I voted Stewart again
but I like the chance to tell Dorn to step into one.

Hrmmm.
In a stunning end to one of baseball’s longest runs, Smoltz reached preliminary agreement on a contract with the Boston Red Sox after failing to work out a deal to return for his 22nd season with the Braves.
A person familiar with the negotiations, speaking on condition of anonymity because the final paperwork had not been completed, said Smoltz will sign a guaranteed deal with the Red Sox worth about $5 million and also have the possibility to earn another $5 million in performance bonuses. The deal was expected to be finalized later Thursday.
The Red Sox also agreed to a one-year contract with outfielder Rocco Baldelli, but clearly the deal with Smoltz is the biggest splash yet for a team that lost to Tampa Bay in the AL championship series and is looking to keep pace with the rival Yankees, who’ve doled out $423.5 million in contracts to three players after missing the playoffs last season.

and then vote for whomever is leading.. Sure, you might not like that candidate, but at least you’ll be picking a winner!

I voted Dorn
I think Moreseco has talent but he hasn’t shown enough yet in the minors to vote for him. There is something about Roenickie, I think he age, that makes it hard for me to vote for him.

i love that
juan duran, zach stewart, yorman rodriguez and danny dorn will all be lower than 11. our system seems fairly deep, as all those guys are potential top-10 or top-5 guys.

insiders
why is yoo rman getting less love than jaun, lend me five bucks uncle roberto, duran. yo rod was 2nd behind the lefty right?
by SadbutTrue on Jan 9, 2009 11:15 AM EST up reply actions 0 recs
im not really an insider
but from what i know, theyre similar guys. toolsy young outfielders who have huge upsides and a lot of question marks. they’re both 16 i believe. duran maybe has a bigger following because of the way the reds got him… they figured out they could sign him and hide him away on their billings roster because of the unusual pioneer league scheduling, even though he was born two days late to make the signing period. it was a really ingenious move, and i think people remember his name a little bit more than that of yorman, who was signed normally.
thats pure speculation, though. from what ive read, these guys have very similar upside, and it’s way too early to make heads or tails out of them as prospects.

Not sure why...
Dorn is not getting any love. He has pretty much progressed through the system at the pace you’d expect, and he’s has an 800+ OPS at each level. His BB/K are pretty good for a power guy, and he gets a good number of walks.
If Mesroscao (SP?) holds true to form, he will get about 25% of the vote.

Mesroscao is a catcher silly
not a starting pitcher.

Roenicke.
Claoser potential. At least the possibility of being a very strong set-up man. Duran and Rodriguez are too raw for us to have anything more than a hunch. They could well be Nos. 1 and 2 in the system. It’s kust far too early to tell. Fun to speculate on, though.

To be fair
Alonso walked 21 times and struck out 16 times against lefties last year in 100 PA. He also had a .237 BABIP against them last year. If he keeps walking more against lefties than he strikes out against them, then he will be fine.

That is more fair. Thanks!

Alonso
