Texas Vs Ohio St Open Thread
You know you wanna. Can Ohio St beat the Longhorns? Honestly I don't think the Longhorns have played a defense like the Buckeyes before and if they get some pressure and some good licks on McCoy... get him nice and rattled I think Ohio St could win. Ultimately I think It's all up to the promising Ohio St Defense. Also heard some rumours that Boeckman and Pryor would be in some formations together... you guys hear anything more in depth about it?

Stupid Tressel
Lets bring in Boeckman on a critical third down in the red zone….no threat of a scramble here. Actually, letting Boeckman see the field, period, is stupid.

Nice sack
Not quite the blowout some were expecting…
All Things Bubba: Because how can you not love a baseball player named Bubba?
Rushing yards
Buckeyes 138 Longhorns -9
All Things Bubba: Because how can you not love a baseball player named Bubba?
I was expecting a blowout
or least a double digit win by Texas. They looked much better earlier on in the season, and OSU’s defense is looking great.

OSU is now underrated
because of their two big losses to SEC teams and the blowout loss to USC.
But remember, the Buckeyes didn’t have Wells, and they were doing the crazy alternating of QBs. Boeckman is terrible, and Pryor was not ready at that point. The offense was a mess.
I still think they would have lost to USC at full strength, but it wouldn’t have been the rout it was.
Texas can’t handle the running game. They haven’t seen a back like Wells all season.

The way he's using Boeckman is idiotic
With Pryor staying in at WR. It’s not like Boeckman will actually throw to Pryor, so he doesn’t require tight coverage, and Boeckman’s mobility is nil, so you take away that aspect of your offensive attack. Just dumb.
You went full retard. No one ever comes back from that. - Sgt. Osiris

I think he's setting up a big trick play later on for the third or fourth quarter
People Don't Kill People. Burning Couches Kill People.
But I think a trick with Pryor at WR is too obvious
All the extra attention Pryor requires is right at the snap. If he goes out for a pass, he’s just another receiver. If he goes in the backfield on some kind of reverse, then you watch for something tricky. And then so what if they do pitch it to Pryor, you now have useless Boeckman either trying to throw a block or go out for a pass. Nice.
Something truly unexpected would be bringing Robiskie or Hartline back on an end around and have them throw the ball.
You went full retard. No one ever comes back from that. - Sgt. Osiris
by cesarhernandez on Jan 5, 2009 10:06 PM EST up reply actions
In which case Pryor would be a good decoy.
Or you run a sort of double reverse where Pryor starts out and comes back in, gets the ball and tosses.
Plus by running him at wide-out they make it so Texas has to respect the possible trick and play more conservative defense.

Low budget LF solution
Off-topic, but a buddy and I were talking a little bit ago and came up with a perfect Reds (cheap) solution to LF:
Sign Jim Edmonds and Craig Wilson.
This could actually be a reasonably effective platoon.

Gratuitous Cincinnati bashing
this morning on CNBC. I guess one of their anchors must be from Cincinnati. He was giving someone a hard time about his stock picks or something, and the guy finally shot back, “At least I don’t have to root for the Reds and the Bengals.”
The Cincinnati guy was speechless. Finally he said something like, “The Bengals weren’t that bad toward the end.”
All Things Bubba: Because how can you not love a baseball player named Bubba?
I know they're down by 13 points
but that doesn’t mean you stop pounding them with Wells. Lots of time left….
Who am I kidding. Pryor is too inexperienced and the WRs who are good (Posey) are also too inexperienced. Hartline is nothing, and Robiskie really regressed this season.

They might be able to say that if the score was 42-12 or something. OSU is #10 in the BCS rankings. 24-21 is not exactly a statement.
All Things Bubba: Because how can you not love a baseball player named Bubba?
Funny, Posnanski had a comment about this today as well.
Except I didn’t think Cosby initiated that talk. He was fed that line by the lazy field reporter.
what a game
They shoulda stopped them on that play that was reviewed.
All Things Bubba: Because how can you not love a baseball player named Bubba?
Letting them convert three fourth downs really hurt
And I guess it’s worth pointing out that Beanie was out for the second half of the fourth quarter. I’m not sure what difference he would have made, but maybe he doesn’t score when Herron does and they run out more clock.
by Brendanukkah on Jan 6, 2009 12:26 AM EST up reply actions
It's the Notre Dame syndrome
OSU lucked into last years BCS game (didn’t deserve it).
OSU drew a BCS bid this year when they didn’t deserve it either. I’m really not that upset. Buckeyes played a great game and it could have gone either way. It’s better than the embarrassments of the last two seasons.
You went full retard. No one ever comes back from that. - Sgt. Osiris
I still think the key was that Texas let OSU score quickly once they got into FG range.
Bucks could have taken a few knees and kicked with a few seconds left, or at least have made Texas burn some TOs. I don’t know why NFL teams don’t do what Texas did.
yeah it was a good move
but either way, OSU should have the defensive balls to stop an 80 yard drive with less than 2 minutes on the clock.

I was saying that that fourth down attempt was the game. At first glance I thought Texas had come up short. Turns out it wasn’t so.

The Packers did it in the Super Bowl against Denver
From here
Packers coach Mike Holmgren told his team to let the Broncos score to maximize the time the Packers would have on the clock for a potentially game-tying drive. He admitted later that he had thought that it was first and goal rather than second and goal, crucial to clock management decision making on the play. Davis did score his third rushing touchdown on second and goal, leaving 1:45 on the clock. The Broncos now had a one touchdown lead, at 31-24.
