Brian B's wife is one morbid lady: The Bereavement Pool, Season 1, final standings
It's all over, and nothing has changed since my last post a week or so ago, so I'm ready to finalize the standings. Congrats again to Brian B's wife. She tied for the league lead in hits (4) and outpointed my roommate and me for top honors.
The final rankings:
1. ($120) Brian B's wife: 197 points (Charlton Heston, Robert Mondavi, Bo Diddley, Studs Terkel)
2. ($20) boobs: 185 points (Bobby Murcer, Tony Snow)
3. ($10) boobs' roommate: 166 points (Charlton Heston, Jesse Helms, Sammy Baugh, W. Mark Felt)
4. Red Menace: 164 points (Charlton Heston, Bo Diddley, Harold Pinter, W. Mark Felt)
5. ctnyc: 136 points (Harvey Korman, Paul Newman)
6. Alan: 128 points (Bo Diddley, Edna Parker, Harold Pinter)
7. 3 fast: 66 points (Estelle Getty)
8. Madville: 61 points (Bob Howsam)
9. Man Mountain: 47 points (Harold Pinter)
10. BLee: 41 points (Charlton Heston)
10. JD: 41 points (Charlton Heston)
10. JD's wife: 41 points (Charlton Heston)
13: Gray: 39 points (Jesse Helms)
I got a strange amount of satisfaction from this pool this year. Thanks to everyone. Every time a famous person died I ran to the computer to see if the standings changed. It's really a horrible thing, depending on how you look at it, but it adds spice to life, and what fun is life without the reminder that we're still cheating death?
The biggest surprise to me was some of the folks who didn't die. Castro is still alive, as are Billy Graham and Amy Winehouse. Some of the picks that didn't hit this year will be hard to avoid in the 2009 pool.
So I've heard from a few folks who want in/back in for Season 2. These are folks who have confirmed their interest:
boobs
boobs' former roommate
boobs' mom
man mountain
brendan
cesarhernandez
madville
joshuaR (plus maybe a wife)
BK
tHan
caleb
That's 11 or 12, and I think I'll have a few more on my side of the family join in, plus I haven't heard from some of this year's participants (menace, 3fast, BLee, brianb +wife, ctnyc, gray?) We stand to have a much bigger pot this year, and if we stick with $20 for second and $10 for third, there could be a lot at stake for the winner. $10 is a good entry amount, I think, and if we get a lot of people we might expand the second- and third-place prize and maybe add a kickback for fourth.
If you're interested, check out the rules from last year. I'll make a new form with a couple updated rules for the enrollment posts, which should come in a week or two with the pool starting february 1. At this point I just want to get an idea of how many contestants we'll have.

I just want to comment on how...
it’s become like a common thing in the Red Reporter for guys to fall in love with my sloppy seconds. I don’t know what that’s about, but enjoy the game tonight.

i prefer having some sort of record of transaction
so that both parties know theres no foul play. if someone sends cash and it gets lost, i dont want to be responsible.
