FSN Reds Review Game Thread: April 20th, 2008 vs. the Brewers

At 8PM ET tonight, FSN is replaying the game from April 20th of last year against the Brewers.  If you're watching, pretend like it didn't happen and re-live the action, or follow along with the game thread from that lovely Sunday afternoon.  Aaron Harang started that day, and it'll be nice to see how he looked before the west coast trip that ruined his season.  And if you're a Brewers fan, you can tune in to be reminded why you hate Eric Gagne.  Everybody wins!  Here's the game thread from that day...

Next Game

Yovani Gallardo vs Aaron Harang

Partly cloudy. Winds blowing out to left field at 5-10 m.p.h. Game Time temperature: Around 60.

2008 - Aaron Harang 1-2 3.33 1.07 21 7

Gallardo is making his first start since coming off a knee injury, so who knows what to expect. His rehab starts are a little scattered: He's struck out 18 and walked only five in 15.2 innings, but he's given up 20 hits and nine runs (5.17 ERA). Last year he was Milwaukee's Homer Bailey, only much more successful: 9-5 with a 3.67 ERA, 1.269 WHIP. I guess he was really their Johnny Cueto.

With the uncertainty surrounding his return, I don't feel unhopeful. But with the way we've been hitting and defending, I certainly don't feel hopeful, either. Go Reds anyway.

Minor League transactions

From Baseball America:

Cincinnati Reds
Signed: OF Jonny Gomes
Released: RHP Jon Adkins

Three years have passed since Gomes’ third-place finish in AL Rookie of the Year voting, and in the interim he batted just .221/.317/.434 in 887 at-bats for the Rays. Now 28 and a recent nontender by Tampa Bay, he’ll try to crack a Reds 40-man roster that lists its only non-Jay Bruce outfielders as Chris Dickerson, Norris Hopper and Willy Taveras. And given Gomes’ steady production versus lefthanders (.266/.369/.510 in 489 career plate appearances), he just might make it.

Other transactions: Kirk Saarloos signed with the Indians. Alvin Colina, the Bats’ catcher last year, signed with the Braves.

my wife wont let me watch

she says she only gets 5 months of the year without baseball and she’d be damned if that’s going to change tonight. i hate Jon and Kate plus 8 even more now.

My wife watches that damn show too

It’s awful. I do find myself feeling sorry for Jon, though. I also can’t keep my wife off that damn HGTV and all the real estate/home improvement shows.

I miss Monday Night Football. I am watching a show about Egyptian mummies on the History Channel, which is moderately interesting, but it’s not football.

i really got down on football this season

i dont know if it was because the Bengals and Browns both sucked so hard, or just a waning lack of interest in the whole damn thing. i think i watched maybe 3 full games all season, and a few quarters here and there.

needless to say, im really excited for baseball.

or through 2011 with a club option for 2012.
