That's It! We're Done!
Evidently, we've maxed out our budget. I just now saw it on MLBTR, who took it from CTrent. According to the Fay, it's about the same last year's $74MM, maybe a touch higher. So we can more or less bank on this being the team that shows up in Sarasota. I think most of us were assuming as much, though perhaps just many were hoping we'd be wrong. In my mind this blows for one reason: I now have zero motivation to check the Reds hot stove for the next couple months. I appreciate the Reds newfound openness to the media, but I wouldn't have minded being strung along till pitchers & catchers in hopes of a new signing.

Now we know why Gomes was 'stoked'
It’s because he’s just about guaranteed a roster spot. He’ll platoon in left with Dickerson and probably be the primary backup to Bruce in right. Oh no, I just had a vision….The Reds outfield against a “tough” lefty, like Cole Hamels or something….
LF Hairston
CF Taveras
RF Gomes
With Keppinger playing shortstop.
Ugh, not a good thought with which to start the day.

I think it's the smart way to
go right now. The economy just gets shittier by the minute – check out Fifth Third’s latest. I would rather the Reds play it ultra conservative this season and let other teams make any big moves.

The London Telegraph just ran a quote that called my employer a “Dead Bank Walking”
Maybe I’ll get to meet Annie Savoy?

It's pretty scary
what’s happening to British banks. My best friend is trying to talk me into going to England with her in April. On the good side, the pound may reach parity with the dollar by then. On the bad side, they might be rioting in the streets like in Iceland. :-P
Our banks aren’t doing that much better. I gotta think this is going to affect sports. So many ballparks have banks in their names. Fifth Third Field, PNC Field. etc. Even the Yankees and the Cowboys are having trouble finding sponsors for their new facilities.

Banks
Check out this graphic. It’s a comparison of market value, 2007 vs. now.
(If Blogger is blocking hot-linking, go in through the front door.)
HSBC isn’t doing too bad, but Barclays looks just as bad as RBS. And Citigroup is not looking so good, either.

Cramer
featured Fifth Third in his opening rant. He was pretty scathing.
Seems like only a couple of months ago that regional banks were pointed to as the bright spot in the banking industry.
Oh, wait, it was only a couple of months ago…
