Baseball America releases Reds Top 10 prospect list
(Via Fay) The only real surpsise is that Yorman Rodriguez is higher than Neftali Soto. I'm not sure why that would be, but otherwise, it's pretty much what you'd expect:
1. Yonder Alonso, 1B
2. Todd Frazier, SS
3. Drew Stubbs, OF
4. Chris Valaika, SS
5. Yorman Rodriguez, OF
6. Kyle Lotzkar, RHP
7. Neftali Perez Soto, 3B
8. Juan Francisco, 3B
8. Juan Duran, OF
10. Devin Mesoraco, C
I guess I could say that it's also a surprise that both Duran and Rodriguez are in the top 10. If I'm not mistaken though, BA leans heavily towards tools rather than polish.

The real surprise is that Soto changed his name.

yeah, maybe that's why he's ranked so low?
when you search Neftali Perez on Baseball Reference, this comes up…

What's funny is that he was probably thinking of Neftali Feliz
I guess that name is way too common.

Danny Dorn continues to get no love
but I think that reflects well on the depth of the system, as a whole.

Yes, he's Billy's kid.
Ryan is a 5-foot-11, 170 pound OF who also plays some 2B. He played HS ball at Purcell Marian and signed at Marietta College before finishing up at Cincinnati Clermont. He played for the Cincinnati Gators Connie Mack League team with Ron Oester’s kid.

I hope he's good
It would be nice for him to be the latest in the line of next-generation Reds.

Yes!
If this is true, and the #8 prospect rockets through the system, the Reds stand a decent chance of having an outfield of Dorn-Duran-Doran one day.

And...
…the Pirates signed Miguel Perez, the supposed best catching prospect ever to come through the Reds minor league system.
Perez spent most of his last year with the Reds on the DL. He had shoulder pain and weakness for a long time, and they couldn’t figure out what the problem was. One day his arm started swelling up like a balloon. They rushed him to the emergency room (they were on the road, so I think it was in St. Louis or someplace like that). He was finally diagnosed – with a blood clot in his shoulder. It’s dangerous – potentially fatal, even – so he had to have emergency surgery.
Kinda unnerving that they couldn’t figure out what the problem was until it was an emergency.

Usually when you get a blood clot diagnosed its because it made it to your brain and you had a stroke. That guy is lucky to be alive
