Community Prospect Rankings: #11
Josh Roenicke rounds out the Reds top 10 prospects. There are enough guys on still on the poll that I don't think we need to add anyone, but if there's someone you think we're leaving off, say so in the comments.

I voted for Mesoraco again
he’s gotta win one of these sometime…

I wonder how many people actually got this.
We’’re in process of trying to a guy with a trade record of working with pitches
Baseball Prospectus's Kevin Goldstein got it
When he made the reference almost two years ago…

My pick was Dorn
but can Ram-Ram get some Jose Acevedo/Luke Hudson/Josh Hall love? Can we call it the Bowden Award?

I know it sounds awful
But I’m so happy to be blessed with good genes, wherever the hell I managed to get them. I probably won’t go bald and at 32 have yet to see even an inkling of gray. I’ll take it…..

Dorn
I don’t feel like writing my reasoning again. I feel like anyone who doesn’t vote dorn should be banned, kinda like anyone who didn’t vote Castro or Saddam.

Mesoraco in a death struggle with Danny Dorn now
I realize he has a cool name and has outperformed expectations in the minors this far, but really, can we please acknowledge that one of these guys is a 20-year-old first-rounder who has a ton of upside at a very difficult position?
What do you mean, "blank slate"?
I know he's been a bit old for his level and such
and I know he can’t hit lefties, but here are Dorn’s 150 game averages in the minors:
AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI BB SO BA OBP SLG OPS
528 98 157 36 3 27 101 67 117 .297 .388 .530 .918
There is only so long that a guy like me can ignore that.

Minorleaguesplits.com
puts him at .233/.320/.419 vs RHP in the minor league equivalency and .174/.259/.268 vs LHP. More than anything, I think that is because he hasn’t played above AA ball. If he puts up similar numbers in AAA, then I think you’ll see his MLEs jump dramatically. The problem is that, in general, the move from AA to MLB is a huge step. Most players need that intermediary step to succeed, but some can get away without it.

I'm not saying Mesoraco isn't that guy
but has he shown anything other than potential at this point? In other words, other than being a first round pick, has he earned a spot on this list? Posting a .710 OPS in A ball isn’t really inspiring confidence.

My vote for Mesoraco is based entirely on his position and his potential
Catching prospects take time to develop. The Reds knew Mesoraco was going to be a project when they drafted him. One below average year doesn’t sour me on him too much.
I like Dorn a lot too. Either player would be rated too low at the 11 spot.

Sardinha
He was drafted out of college and never exceeded an OPS of 700 in the minors. Mesoraco did that last year as a 20-year-old. Granted, a 700 OPS in the minors isn’t much of an achievment but I think Mesoraco is a better player now than Sardinha ever was.

Stewart.
Closer potential. At least late-inning flame thrower type.

yikes, do they use wiffle balls in the big 12?
I also like how MLB.com’s video content uses the same backround metal music as youtube fanboy clips.

I hit in the batting cages at GABP last weekend
on the machine the pros use, and while it didn’t have that much movement, the way his ball moves reminds me of that, only worse. Suffice to say, I didn’t get a lot of solid hits – and it was only throwing 70 MPH.

Don't worry
That’s about the speed you’ll see there I would imagine. Remember, most people don’t throw over 70 or so, no matter what they may believe.

yeah
that was the faster cage…some of the vets from camp said the speed is more like the slower cage, which was at 65 MPH. I sucked there too, but then I was all out of whack that day. It was the first time I had hit a baseball in front of other people since I was a kid. So, I think I was a little self-concious. I went to Sycamore High the next day and hit in their cage with my neighbor. Within 5 swings he pointed out that I was dropping my hands, which is why I was getting my ass kicked on the high pitches. Once I fixed that I started making some solid contact. I’ve still got a long way to go, but I have a better idea of what I’m doing now.
