(Updated) Reds Announce more Callups, Coffey gets the D-F-A
Last night Louisville was eliminated from the International League playoffs with a 9-1 loss at Durham...tomorrow the Reds are expected to promote IF Paul Janish (#7), IF Danny Richar (#62), IF Adam Rosales (#60), RHP Jon Adkins (#64), LHP Daniel Herrera (#52), LHP Adam Pettyjohn (#63) and RHP Josh Roenicke (#65)...corresponding roster moves will be announced tomorrow to make room for Adkins, Pettyjohn, and Roenicke .
No Homer Bailey or Daryl Thompson? I thought Homer did very well his last start. Maybe he and Daryl are still a bit banged up. These guys on the 40-Man did not get called up:
Pitchers: Homer Bailey, Matt Belisle, Todd Coffey, Bobby Livingston, Tyler Pelland, Daryl Thompson
Catchers: Craig Tatum
INF: Yonder Alonso
Our 40 Man Roster is Full. So Three from the above list or those on the ML Club right now (Patterson, Fogg, Bako, A. Phillips) will get the D-F-A or outrighted to the minors tomorrow.
I bet we see a farewell to Coffey, Belisle, and Josh Fogg tomorrow. Thoughts anyone on why Bailey and Thompson didn't get the call? Why not throw Homer into the rotation and use a six-man rotation and save innings for Volquez, Cueto, and Harang?
I know a lot of people want to see Stubbs, and why I'd love to have him here the rest of the year, it doesn't make a whole lot of sense to start his clock. Plus he is signed up for the AFL.
Tuesday 9-9-08 Update:
To make room, the Reds placed Josh Fogg on the 60-Day DL, ending his season, recalled Matt Belisle, and placed him on the 60-Day DL, and designated for assignment RHP Todd Coffey.
Remember that fat contract extension Coffey pitched under this year? I hope he saved some of that back.

No OF callups means
we’ll still have the pleasure of Corey’s company. He really is the luckiest muthafucker alive.
Looking forward to seeing Josh Roenicke. I hope Fogg and Sanka are gone, and Belisle—meh. I’ll bet with Homer and Thompson it’s another of those “well, let’s shut ’em down and give them the winter to get their confidence back up” things. Homer still does not look ready, and while I liked Thompson, he’s not really ready either. Would I personally call them up now? Yes, of course.
Overserved and underwhelmed.

I'm really excited to see Roenicke
Herrera had a decent run with us earlier in the season, so it will be nice to see whether or not that was a fluke. Since we got Richar for Griffey, I propose we bat him third.
Oh, and I don’t think Drew Stubbs is on the 40 man roster, which is why we’re not likely to see him up this year (Adkins, Pettyjohn and Roenicke be damned!).

i think the real question is
will any of these dudes see playing time, i mean, other than Adkins and Pettyjohn? the infielders are flat-out blocked and the relievers are too young.
Dusty Baker is dumb.

I dunno...
You might see some Janish, simply because he’s the only real SS on the 40 (that’s pathetic!). I also bet you see more than enough of Rosales at 3b (which will just piss me off).

I bet they see some playing time
I’m sure they just want Homer and Thompson to start getting ready for 09.
I’d guess we see Coffey and Belisle cut loose. Not sure about the other move. I don’t think it will be Bako though

Line up
I imagine you’ll see the “A” lineup against the contenders at least until the Cubs officially clinch.

I'm happy for Adkins.
I used to cover him when he pitched for Wayne HS, just outside of Huntington. He’s a good guy, as is his cousin Tim, another former Reds farmhand.

Well
They could put Cherry on the 60-day DL.
All those infielders called up…doesn’t bode well for Andy Phillips.
Then again, maybe he’d welcome his release. His wife is pregnant with their first child, and she’s due this month. She had a very difficult pregnancy that didn’t end well last time, so I’m sure he wants to be with her.

As Pops said no offensive callups
But really who is left to call up that can really bang?
I don’t mind Rosales getting some PT at 3B. Could be a chance to play EdE in LF…oh wait that would mean C-Dick will sit b-cause Corey is THE CF.
Somebody doesn’t like Andy Phillips. He has seen little opportunity to even show if he can or can’t play.Meanwhile 36 yr. ol (more like 41) Hobart Cabdrivera is still out in the field.
I won’t be surprised to see Fogg dumped, Coffee DFA’d and Belizzle as part of a winter trade. It won’t surprise me if Bailey is gone with him. Unless Dusty sits Corey, Bako, Keppinger and Ede (some) these infielder/outfielder AAAs ain’t going to get much of a chance to play at the next level.
My guess is that unless Walt leans on him Dustbrains will continue to play his favs in hopes of winning some games, thereby supporting his claim that this team wasn’t ‘his or Walts’. I mean Grif and Donkey could not bunt.
Fucking waste of time for these young guys.Esp. Josh Roenicke who looks like a prospect.

even if Roenicke only pitches in a game or two
i don’t think it is a waste. Lousiville is done so there isn’t like he is missing development time while rotting in the bullpen.

I know. I know...I am a fan of Roenicke and for that matter all of these young guys
I’d rather see them than Fogg or Weathers or Affeldt or Corey or Bako etc etc. that’s all

you were talking about in terms of preparing this team for the future, not the players.

It's slightly macabre, but I'm excited to see who is getting DFA'd to make room

What is truely macabre is any meeting including Dusty, Dick Pole, Clownboy, Walt and Bob. I can see them crowded around a conference table in the shape of a giant bananna - bitching about how Sweaterpants and Coach Narron fucked up the 2008 season and dre
Guys to DFA
Corey – He’ s good enough defensively but can’t hit the ball out of the infield.
He really has no place in the scheme of any team’s MLB club.
Bako – This guy can’t hit. He apparently calls a good game but so do lots
of Chad wannabees. Hannigan can take the brunt of the catching.
Hobart – Why is he even on this team? I’ll take Keppinger anyday over that old man.
Fogg – He’s not very good. Maybe he can get thrown in on a trade – doubtful
Hopper – Unless he comes back with a bionic arm he’s lost his spot to anyopne who
can hit the ball out of the infield.
Coffey – The red’s as an organization don’t seem to be able to develop very many good
pitchers…Coffey should be gone today
Belisle – See Coffey
Valentin – Javy seems to do a decent job when he’s in the lineup. I’m surpruised that
Dusty hasn’t put him at 3b or catcher more. But he’ll never be everyday
and as a PH..well he leads the world in game ending outs
Freel – There was a time when I really thought that Freel could play everyday. He’s
shown beyond a show of a doubt that he can’t. the Reds owe him a lot of money
and he can play a lot of positions but he soon may be trade fodder – He’s not
very good coming off the bench – methinks
Clownboy – Arguably the worst announcer in recent Red’s history. One night go so far
as to call him the ‘Sarah Palin’ of announcers – a lot of preconcieved
goofiness combined with a plethora of unsubstaniated opions. But he
did play the game at least.
Merker – I don’t know what his status is roster-wise but I would like to see him developed
into a pitching coach or take Mark Berry’s spot as 3b coach.
Mark Berry – See Merker.
So Mr. 3 Fast 3 Furious, I too can barely contain my eagerness to see who gets the ax. Hopefully all of the above!!!!

Here’s Berry now ignoring Adam after another Donkey blast.

I figured the Mets would want Weathers
now Wagner is done. Could still happen. I wouldn’t be shocked if they claim Coffey. Mets bullpen minus Wagner is as bad as the Reds’ pen was last year.

Snakes are fumbling right now - 3-11 in their last 14 games
It’s probably Dunn’s fault even though he’s batting .286/.464/.500 over that span.

Uncle Bill and Mr, French were the original gay parents.
This was back in 1966 so you had to look for ‘clues’ and ‘code’ like
A man with a raspberry scarf
A man with an umbrella in his ‘left’ hand
A man rubbing his package simultaneously on a man with a raspberry scarf and a young pubescent boy.
An A-sexual doll named Beasley.
I have no idea who the frump on the left is…but that’s Jodie as a young lesbian right down in front. And to think I had such a crush on her until I found out she was…….only 9.
