Game 141: Reds vs Cubs

Chicago Cubs @ Cincinnati Reds

Next Game

Chicago Cubs
@ Cincinnati Reds

Friday, Sep 5, 2008, 7:10 PM EDT
Great American Ball Park

Ted Lilly vs Bronson Arroyo

Partly cloudy with a 30-percent chance of rain. Winds blowing out to left field at 5-10 m.p.h. Game Time temperature: Around 75.

Complete Coverage >

W-L ERA WHIP K BB
2008 - Ted Lilly 13-8 4.23 1.30 160 57

W-L ERA WHIP K BB
2008 - Bronson Arroyo 13-10 4.97 1.46 137 57

Don't look now, but Arroyo's ERA is under 5.00 for the first time since his first start of the season.  And now that Corey Patterson's batting over .200 for the season, you'll see that look of regret on the face of Cubs fans when they realize what got away.  Things are really starting to look up for the Reds.  Heck, I bet they even have a big crowd down at the ol' ballpark tonight.

The Cubs are currently mired in a 5-game losing streak, their longest of the season.  For some perspective, the Reds have had 5 losing streaks this season of 5 games or more.  But that doesn't matter now.  The Reds are in the spoiler part of their season.  So, hold on to your hats because these games, you know, mean something to like one of the teams involved.

COMMON Slyde!

You have to look on the bright side of things! We have so much to look forward to, what with the……uuummmm….well….

Yeah, nevermind.

In honor of you, I’ma stop on the way home and get a fifth of rum and a two liter of Diet Coke. This one’s for you buddy.

How can such a good looking man be so bad at getting to first base?

mmmmm...sounds yummy

I may do that too

Louisville and Dayton playoffs

That’s what we’re looking forward to. Oh, and Votto needs three homeruns to tie the Reds’ rookie record for roundtrippers (three times fast). Plus Jo-eh kills the Cubs. His three homer day was a true bright spot for the season.

More storylines: Will we see the continuation of Goodroyo? He’s pitching prior to the weekend, so that’s good. Will we continue to see Competent Corey Patterson? Dunn and Griffey were holding him back from being a .240 hitter. Youngsters! Will Hanigan and Castillo get to start? And asking yourself if you’d be more excited to see Bruce hit a home run or take a walk.

Lots to look forward to!

More Votteaux stats

8 of his career 21 homers (38) have come against the Cubs, and 18 of his 84 RBI (21.4). Here’s his career line against the Cubs: .308 /.338 /.738.

I was there for the 3 HR game

I didn’t get to stay for the whole game but I was there for the homers. There were a ton of them IIRC.

correction on Votto

the rookie record for HR for the Reds was set by Frank Robinson at 38 (also was the MLB record until 1987). If Votto reaches 20 it will be the most since 1970 (Bernie Carbo). Dunn and Hamilton both hit 19 in their rookie seasons, though in fewer ABs than Votto currently has.

I don’t include tHom or Clownboy as radion guys. Although I heard d tHom doing football on the TV the day and he was quite good as a football announcer. I think the pace of baseball is too slow for tHom.

Maybe it just the end of the year...but

I have been encouraged by Votto, Bruce, Voltron, JohnnyC….now i must admit to (stupidly – but I don’t care) getting excited by Hanigan and Dickerson. If those 2 guys can compete over the course next year (IF) then we really only need to get a RH banger fro LF, swithc BP and Keppinger defenssively and find a couple more decent pitchers….who knows

Blueberries are ok, strawberries are good frozend with sugar, I hate the texture of grapes. I love grape juice. I’m lactose intolerant, and it depends on the type of pop tart.
