Paul Newman passes away at age 83
Legendary actor Paul Newman dies at age 83
Saturday September 27 9:16 AM ET
Paul Newman, the Academy-Award winning superstar who personified cool as an activist, race car driver, popcorn impresario and the anti-hero of such films as "Hud," "Cool Hand Luke" and "The Color of Money," has died. He was 83.
Newman died Friday after a long battle with cancer at his farmhouse near Westport, publicist Jeff Sanderson said. He was surrounded by his family and close friends.
In May, Newman he had dropped plans to direct a fall production of "Of Mice and Men," citing unspecified health issues.

Newman worked with some of the greatest directors of the past half century, from Alfred Hitchcock and John Huston to Robert Altman, Martin Scorsese and the Coen brothers. His co-stars included Elizabeth Taylor, Lauren Bacall, Tom Cruise, Tom Hanks and, most famously, Robert Redford, his sidekick in "Butch Cassidy" and "The Sting."

Devastated
Heavy heart in Bobcat country. Paul attended Ohio briefly after high school, briefly, before moving to Kenyon College where he graduated. There was a very entertaining rumor that Mr Newman was kicked out of Ohio U for his penchant for drinking and specifically for rolling a keg down Jeff Hill.

Anway, I had a friend for volunteered for his Hole in the Wall Camp for seriously ill children. At the end of the summer she took him aside and asked him if the story that I relayed to her about the keg was true. He laughed, said it wasnt…then instructed her to tell me that he didnt want either of us passing that fact on. He kinda liked the fact such a legend existed back in Athens. Until this day ive never told anyone, lol.
The world lost a great actor, a tremendous businessman who donated all his profits to charity (Newman’s Own food products) and a phenomenal philantropist/humanitarian.
If any of the younger folks havent seen some of his classic films, give a couple a chance. Specifically “The Sting”, “Cool Hand Luke”, “Harper”, “Cat on a Hot Tin Roof”, “Butch and Sundance”, “SLAP SHOT” or “Nobody’s Fool”.
Sad, sad day…

Nobody's fool brings the quality
I too really liked Paul Newman. I read an interesting article on him a couple of weeks ago. It was about him knowing he only had a couple of weeks to live, so he was out at a race track driving a car at over 200 mph.

Rough Individual
Newman was a great actor, and a good guy, accomplished a lot, and is talked about still all the time in Athens. We had our homecoming festivities this weekend, where people get so drunk they do things like roll kegs down Jeff Hill…….Halloween has more pepole here (and they are assholes) but the students definately the most out of control and their arent pesky “others” in town over this weekend….Newman would have been more that welcomed though

If you've not seen it
do yourself a favor and get/rent Pocket Money. It is the single most absurd movie I have ever seen. Odd in every way and so stupid that it is endearing.
Vote Pops in '08. I promise nothing and I'll do it!

bereveament update
ctnyc moves into the money. He had Newman and scored a unique hit bonus. I’m sure a lot more of us would have had him next year since it came out how he was fading. I’ll echo that he was a great actor and by all accounts a great dude.

Speaking of actores - how soon before Mary Tyler Moore buys it?
Ibn Khaldoun and Hulrich Zwingli - now that's real reform, Mr. McCain.
