C.C. Sabathia vs. Johnny Cueto

Complete Coverage >

W-L ERA WHIP K BB
2008 - C.C. Sabathia 9-1 1.82 1.03 107 21

W-L ERA WHIP K BB
2008 - Johnny Cueto 8-13 4.68 1.39 153 65

Let's do a fun comparison:

Age W L IP ERA ERA+ SO BB
Glavine 22 7 17 195.1 4.56 80 84 63
Maddux 21 6 14 155.2 5.61 76 101 74
Johnson 25 7 13 160.2 4.82 82 130 96
Cueto 22 8 13 165.1 4.68 96 153 65

Those are the numbers for the first full season as an MLB pitcher for each of those names listed.  I gotta say that Cueto compares quite favorably, don't you think?  Granted, all three of the listed Cy Young winners are the exception more than the rule and none of the three allowed home runs at the rate that Cueto has this season, but it's still fun to image the future that lies ahead of Cueto - if Dusty doesn't do what Dusty do.

This is game 154 of the season, so prior to 1961 this would have been the last game of the season and we could all watch one last time and then move on with our lives.  Instead, we "get" to watch one last week of baseball.  Hopefully the youngsters can keep giving us something worth watching.

EDIT: C.C. Sabathia's pitching for the Brew Crew today, not Suppan.  As you were. -BK

AndyFan, batting cleanup again?

At least there’s no Patterson or Bako today.

Dusty's just playing lefty-righty

Or it would probably be Votto or Bruce batting cleanup.

Though hitting for power is Andy’s strong suit. That’s why the Yanks kept him around so long. Not Giambi or Big Papi power, alas. Which is probably why the Yanks cut him loose.

I'd probably chalk it up to rewarding him for the PH HR last night

Gotta ride the hot bat, I guess… but cleanup? Common Dusty.

riding a hot bat

sounds like its just up Dusty’s alley.

Yes, that was a completely unnecessary and homophobic gay joke. Don’t judge.

...because there's already someone posing as Jacob Brumfield

by Cy Schourek on Sep 20, 2008 3:05 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Nah

He batted Andy cleanup before. Gotta have a righty between the two lefties. And Andy rode pine after his previous home run.

Andy’s in the game because there’s a lefty on the mound. Dusty still hasn’t noticed Andy actually hits righties better than lefties.

nice that the Fay disappeared 10 losses from Cueto

Hey, you're back

And I’ve got no idea why Wee Wilkin hasn’t caught yet. They’ve played him everywhere else. I like what I’ve seen of Hanigan behind the plate, and I haven’t liked what I’ve seen from Bako. Please Dusty, please try out Castillo. Of course, he hasn’t had Michah Owings pitch yet either, but he’s had a sore shoulder.

The Orioles put Juan Castro in

as a LIDR. Shoulda had a DP, but his throw pulled the first baseman off the bag.

I guess slick fielding doesn’t mean slick throwing…

Cueto the next Doc Gooden?

I sure hope so. Maybe not in his personal life, hopefully. But, I think this kid is full of promise. Next year will be a year to remember for him, I think.

I didn't see it, but it looked like a pretty nice game from Terrelle Pryor today

Honestly, I was just happy to see the Buckeyes throw the ball downfield.

by Brendanukkah on Sep 20, 2008 3:57 PM EDT   0 recs

I was at the game.

Kid looks pretty good. His biggest asset is the ability to make something happen when the play breaks down. His numbers would have been even better if Robiskie hadn’t tried to one hand a very catchable ball with nothing but green in front of him in the first half.

Yes, well aware of that. Didn't remark on the level of competition.

Just saying Pryor looks good for his first start.

Almost.

We moved over to by the Reds bullpen so my friend could talk to Herrera (went to HS together), and we ended up sitting over there seeing one ball hit lower in our section, and two go into the bullpen.

It's the Fox game of the week so you might get it in DC

But he called the youngsters Joe Votto and Jason Bruce, called Cueto “Bebe Gordo” and said something about Jolbert Cabrera going streaking.

26 pitches for CC in the first inning

I know he’s a horse, but he’s been ridden hard this season, and is pitching on short rest. Nice job by everybody to work the count and get a run on the board!

Whoa Dudes 1 zip Red Stockings!!!

s’up you’all. Mrs. M and I attended lats night’s game. I was moved, not from my seat – but by the energy and talent we have. I even wrote a fan post about it. Daughter #2’s BF was at the game with a bunch of his drunken buddies and he almost caught Votto’s Dunnlike homer – speaking of Homer…. last year at this time….

Maybe he’s a kiddie snatcher.

Eh, I bet it is Darren.

He’s known for sitting with Dusty in the dugout, and 8-9 doesn’t sound too far off. Anyone else think it’s odd that Dusty has a young son and a daughter in her mid to late 20’s?

congrats on getting that mlb team D.C.

WASHINGTON (AP) – With the first season at the Washington Nationals new stadium nearly over, the team owners still haven’t paid rent that was due in the spring.
The Lerner family contends the ballpark is not “substantially complete.”

With the rent in dispute, and sales tax revenue from the ballpark below expectations, the city has had to use funds from a special business tax for debt service on the stadium project. But D.C. Chamber of Commerce president Barbara Lang says that tax source wasn’t intended to be a stopgap for lower stadium revenues.

D.C. Sports and Entertainment Commission chairman Matthew Cutts says his agency is in the process of hiring a law firm to handle the rent dispute.

The worst part is that this whole stadium affair has left a really bad taste in the mouth of the DC council

So now they’re even less likely to approve a stadium for DC United, aka the only team in the last 15 years that has won anything in DC. They’re much more likely to relocate to suburban Maryland, which is just a bad idea.
